Agreed. To the best of my knowledge, there are no comparable vendors in the North American market. I'm not aware of anybody who has built more than one camper on an F series Fuso in the U.S. AFAIK, nobody here has the breadth and depth of experience as the Australians with these trucks...

Upside: replaceable anywhere with another factory part Downside: the stock spring packs are very harsh Mitigation to upside: leaf springs are easily repairable anywhere in the world; you don't gain much with the "replace with factory part" in this particular case; it's not the same value as an...

Agreed. I lived and learned that it's better to buy a series built product where the lessons learned can be applied to the next unit down the production line. That's where the math + experience + lessons learned take effect.

The one I've seen the most when communicating with others is OvEx, with a year tag, e.g. OvEx12.

Found some. These are all from the pivoting frames and mounting campers thread. ( Another example of why somebody needs to create a technology that auto-creates and auto-maintains a wiki based on forum posts. Forums are great for exchanging ideas but suck for information storage and...

Well, technically, the subject of any photo taken in a public setting is public domain, but that's a different thread... :) IIRC, I've got some photos of examples other than Lance's. If I can find them, I'll post one into this thread.

If Deaver extends the arch (good idea, based on our experience), that will change the required length for the shock. You'll need new shocks. You may want to check with All Terrain Warriors (ATW) to check on the cost of their suspension upgrades for your generation FG. I don't know if they...

IMO, it is always best to use the manufacturer's guidelines. They've usually put hundreds to thousands of engineering and analysis person-hours into creating those recommendations to best match the materials and design of the components. I'm not an engineer, so I can't comment on the...

RE: additional training / certification A format that is common for professional conferences is pre- and/or post-conference sessions. These are typically half- or full-day sessions dedicated to a specific topic or track. Pre- and post-conference sessions are usually additional cost and ala...

2012 emissions delete - USA models?

John, I echo Chip's comments. Second Stage Manufacturers, such as Sportsmobile, EarthRoamer, Global Expedition Vehicles or EarthCruiser, are specifically prohibited from modifying any safety or emissions related equipment on the vehicle. That means those companies cannot legally remove any...

FG 140 factory dash light switch

I answered an email about this mod last week and thought I'd repeat the info here. I know I documented all of this previously, but I'm not sure I put it all in one place. This mod covers adding additional Fuso factory light switches to the dash to control fog, driving, pencil beam, etc...

No. The problem with welding is the heat. Your frame is a tempered steel frame. The tempering process adds strength, but creates areas where you cannot introduce heat again without weakening the steel.

In our "Couple's Survival Guide to Overlanding" class, we teach that a key to success is for each person to have a space, bag or compartment that is private, inviolate and totally their own. I'm not sure if Monika Wescott is claiming this box as her private space or not. I'll ask Gary the next...

The venue was a massive improvement. A quick survey of veterans yielded an estimate of 3x to 4x larger event (metrics vary, e.g. attendees, trucks, etc.). The vendors we spoke with were unanimous that the attendees were much better qualified prospects. The attendees in our sessions were a...

RE: placement of mounts, etc. The highest stress point for the frame on your truck is just behind the cab (that's not just yours, it's true of all normal straight trucks & semi tractors). That means it's best to pay particular attention to the forward-most mounts and know that your frame is...
