    Mr Buddy or Coleman heaters?

The Mr Buddy has tipover shutoff, and Coleman's don't list that. We have a Mr Buddy Portable Buddy and we know you don't have to bump it very hard for it to shut off, which is reassuring.

A quick trip in Death Valley

It does. I had some trouble with it, because it was the first trip in over a year in the right seat, and I had trouble placing the left wheels. I kept thinking the left wheels were farther away that they really were. I am glad my wife was able to help me.

A quick trip in Death Valley

Did you see a lot of Land Rovers climbing Lippincott? If so, we were in the last one. I remember a Dodge like yours that pulled over for all of us.

    Hi lift jack

Bill Burke (who is in the left of the photo) refers to it as a "bung".

Pic: Sweeet series3 moment in the current UK weather..

Sweet! My wife's Volvo actually didn't do too bad in the snow, but we did put all-season tyres on it.

Why does food only come in round cans?

The round shape is a lot more resistant to buckling. Also, the round shape uses less material to enclose a given volume.

Propane 20lb or 5lb, or.. what?

We recently purchased 2 of the 5 lb ones, mainly because they are the only ones that fit in the racks that came on the Dormobile. On our recent DV trip, we camped 5 nights, cooking every night and most breakfasts. One cylinder ran the stove, the other the heater, and we did not run out of...

    Creature Comforts

Mr Heater Portable Buddy We paid something like $60 for it, and it is great for heating the interior of the tent trailer and the Dormobile. It shuts off automatically if you bump it (we have tested this a couple of times), so the tip over protection works. We bought an adapter hose so we...

    Creature Comforts

When we were absolutely freezing in the snow around the hot fire one time, an old timer got up, grabbed the shovel, and put 2 or 3 hot coals on the ground under each of our chairs. The difference those coals made was amazing, even through the chair, outergarmets, and long johns.

    Ham Radio Podclass

That is what I used to study for my General. I found the link here on ExPo somewhere - I think it is in the Ham Radio FAQ that is stickyed.

Blitz Gas Can Seals for Free

After wasting a lot of time trying to find a place to buy new seals for my Blitz metal gas cans, I discovered if you ask customer service, they will send you seals for free: http://www.blitzusa.com/feedback.htm My cans still leak a tiny bit, more of a smell or a little bit of a weep, but they...

    Dual Battery Set-Up Questions

Are these simple switches make before break? That is, when you switch from "1" to "Both", is the battery connection momentarily interrupted when the knob is halfway between them? I was just wondering what would happen if you switched them while you were driving down the road.

    Antenna gain question

Can you use their gain figures to compare antennas within a particular manufacturer's range? Or are they too inaccurate even for that? It seems like the 5/8 wave ones have more gain than the 1/4 - I am thinking the extra length is a worthwhile tradeoff for me if that is so.

Thanks. I will buy a little and try it. Will those red heat guns the electronic techs use to shrink their heat shrink work?

Graham, where is your africaoverland.org site?

Ah-so! Hope it works out. The impermanence of the web is having me download more and more stuff to my local drive recently.

    Successful shakedown cruise completed

Yes, that was a mistake. I had the hammer down climbing a grade, we were going 60 or 65, then the grade got shallower and shallower, and then I noticed the handling getting a little squirrely. I let off on the gas and asked my wife how fast we were going. Years of fatigue, most likely. The...
