Bing Maps and the Cochran Coke Ovens

I was playing with Bing maps this morning, I discovered a nice feature. I was looking for the Ashust-Hayden Diversion Dam near Florence, Arizona, so I typed in "Florence, AZ". Under the search box, there are options to search for Businesses, People, Collections, and Locations. I clicked the...

Is the Chevy 350 an interference engine?

My colleague just rebuilt the engine in his 94 Silverado, and he is not all concerned he did not get the cam timing right. So, he just asked me if it is an interference engine, and can he ruin it by trying to start it. I told him I was 99% sure that the 350s are all non-interference engines...

12 Volts in the bed of the Silverado?

Is there an always-on or accessory-on hot wire at the rear of an 06 Silverado where I can easily tap into? I want to put our cooler back there, which draws 5 amps max.

    Pick

We bought an Estwing Geo/Paleo Pick to use for rockhounding. It turns out is is also an excellent piece of recovery gear. Especially when you are trying to pull a rock out from under your vehicle, and you don't have a whole lot of room to work. It is about as large a pick as you can swing...

How does the speedometer in a GPS work?

Does it take measured points and divide the distance between them by the elapsed time, or does it calculate it from the Doppler effect? Or does it depend on the unit?

    ABS question

My first ABS equipped vehicle was our 93 Range Rover. It has a valve block, an abs pump, an accumulator, and no brake booster. Our 95 Volvo and 06 Chevy both have brake boosters, but no accumulator that I can see. Is this a case of the accumulator taking the place of the brake booster?

Converting Township & Range to Lat & Long or UTM

I can find several web-based tools that convert township and range and section to something my GPS can understand. I would like to find one that runs on my laptop or my handheld, so I can use it without being connected to the web. Is there anything out there? I could do it the old-fashioned...

Parting out a 1993 Range Rover LWB with 120,000 miles

I plan to list parts here as I get them. Anything that doesn't sell here will go on eBay. My eBay name is kjhranch, so look that up if you are looking for something. Everything is located in Tucson. I have already shipped parts as far away as Australia, so I am not afraid of international...

Question about eBay items listed here

Every week or two I put a piece of the Range Rover I am parting out on eBay. I was wondering whether folks here would want to know about these items as they go up for auction, or if you were prefer they stay off of here? I couldn't find any policy on this in my search of the archives.

I got my Salisbury ring and pinion today!

My 4.7 Salisbury ring and pinion arrived today from England. I went out to compare them with the Rover ones, and took some photos. The Rover 4.7 ring and pinion and carrier weigh about 23 pounds, including the bearings but excluding two of the spider gears, since they fell out in little bitty...

How do I get My Places from Google Earth to my Garmin?

So, I have a new Garmin Vista Unit, and I want to take a whole pile of places I have saved on Google Earth and put them in the Garmin. I can export the places as .kmz or .kml files, but Garmin MapSource doesn't appear to import those. What can I do to get these waypoints in?

What are these holes in my new Jerry Cans?

I got two new jerry cans for Christmas (YAY!). Does anyone know what the two small holes in the front of the handle are for? They almost look like where a nameplate gets riveted on.

    Identify this vehicle

It looks an awful lot like a Jeep, but has the Mitsubishi logo on the front. Does that make it a Jitsubishi or a Mitsubeep?
