The Great Transition: SUV to Crossover

Well, I haven't exactly been in your shoes. I still have a low-range-equipped 4x4, but have been part of the crossover world since 2009. We bought a Suzuki SX4 AWD (with a manual) in 2009 (above). We did plenty of ski trips, gravel roads, and sandy beaches in the vehicle, and it never skipped...

    Question for the Subbie guys

We went with Forester. Earlier (e.g. pre 2009) versions seemed a bit smallish on the interior compared to the Outback (having ridden in the back of both vehicles) to me. We bought a '12, and it's quite roomy in all respects, but that's getting off topic. My friend's '04 Outback has well over...

    My 2001 Pathfinder (R50 ) mild/budget build

Cool rig. I always liked the looks of the SE models (I had an SE Limited Sentra back in 1999)—always a bit sportier looking. Looking forward to this build. - Andy

    Comeup Winches

Sparky, What are you getting for more dollars vs. the WARN VR series: • Faster line speed • Extreme-duty sealing • Premium components including a faster motor, a contactor vs. solenoids, a more durable remote. These items, specifically the contactor and remote, do up the...

    Comeup Winches

Just to clear some things up: In terms of the VR line, these winches have different motors, remotes, finishes, have a bit shorter lengths rope (on wire-equipped VRs), and use solenoids instead of an Albright contactor (compared to the M8000, etc.). These bits help save manufacturing costs. In...

AWD wagons: Help me make a decision

I've owned two Suzuki SX4 AWDs and have really liked them. We decided to upsize recently and bought a '12 Subaru Forester 2.5x (non-turbo). So far, it's been good on dirt roads and in the sand. Haven't really challenged it much, though. It does, however, have plenty of room on the inside for...

1998 suzuki sidekick sport 4x4, tell me about it please

The frame is actually wider on the Sports, and therefore many winch bumper, trailer hitches, etc. that'd fit a regular Sidekick/Tracker will not fit the Sport. If you decide to go with a non-Sport model, there are still a number of companies (including Warn Industries; we offer hubs) that offer...

Summit Experience in a Honda CR-V

Always liked the first-gen CR-Vs. I was just thinking about these vehicles yesterday when we were buying some new camping supplies. As I remember, they had a removable table built into the floor, which would be great for camping/overlanding. - Andy

    STUCK pictures

The WARN Employee Snow Run from a few years ago. Single-track trail and someone else was coming down. Being the much more capable vehicle, we "moved to the side," which then required us to get unstuck. - Andy

    On The Road/Trail Snacks?

I am a sunflower seed addict. Love the black pepper ones from Spitz. FYI, I did pick up some of Safeway Select trail mixes, specifically the Ginger Zinger and Good Apple Morning. Very tasty. We typically don't buy trail mix, but tried these; good stuff. - Andy

Middle of summer, lets talk about snow!

Single track, and another vehicle was coming down the hill. Knowing we could always winch ourselves out if need be, we drove up on the snowbank to let the other rig go past. Ended up not being able to drive out of it, so we winched. - Andy
