Yeah, so what I ended up doing is writing a little script to pull tiles at various levels from opencyclemap.org - I like these way better than the regular openstreetmap.org ones -
and place them in the OSM cache folder. Works well and the PNG files are only 25kb each so the 35,000 or so I...
Yeah, I've actually just in the last couple days picked up a Raspberry Pi and installed both Xastir and YAAC. BIGGEST issue with both is that neither one makes installing maps very easy. I wouldn't call either of them really comparable to the major of mapping apps out there. This is exactly what...
Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know I'm gonna be putting the net on hold for a bit.
Lack of interest/attendance, the inability to get Echolink going on the current repeater, and my own desire to get my truck project done is driving the decision.
I'll post up again if/when I start this up...
What exactly is the problem with bubble pack radios?
$30 for 2 is pretty dang cheap is that's your criteria: https://www.amazon.com/Motorola-T100-Talkabout-Radio-Pack/dp/B01DM7AESK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1514652429&sr=8-4&keywords=frs+radio
Based on this and your screenshot, I would politely suggest that a return is in order. I feel like you’ve really given it your best to get this radio to work as you want, and you’ve learned a lot along the way, but at this point you’re fighting a battle that isn’t worth it. Return it, pick up a...
Maybe yes, maybe no. Unfortunately 9/10 of the cables on Amazon or Ebay use the older generic chips that require an ealier version of the driver (the software that tells the computer how to interact with the accessory). Windows comes with LOTS of drivers already installed, which is why a lot of...
That disc is gonna be the driver for the cable, not any programming software. Do you know if it is an FTDI or Prolific chip in the cable?
If FTDI you can download the drivers here: http://www.ftdichip.com/FTDrivers.htm
If Prolific you can download the drivers here...
I know guys are doing that with windows tablets running APRSISCE32.
Had considered doing what this guy did with a Windows tablet and his Yeasu FTM-400XDR (what I run)... I have a hard time ditching GaiaGPS on my iPad though, and 2 tablets seems excessive...
So then I think you're good with the main frequencies - 145.825 for sats and 144.390 for everything else. According to the APRS Wiki those other frequencies you list are for low power trackers: http://info.aprs.net/index.php?title=Frequencies
The one thing I would ask is: is this the only radio in the vehicle or a secondary run strictly for APRS?
If secondary then I think you have the channels covered.
If primary... then I'm curious what other uses you'd have for it and suggest you need to re-think using the RJ45 connector for the...
Ah yeah, totally missed that. I'm 99.9% he'll come back and say that's exactly what you need. Since you're powering the MobilinkD separately all you need is Rx, Tx, and PTT which the mic connector has. And since you won't actually be using the mic... GTG. :)
I'm actually looking at building a...
Interesting... certainly looks like you have to be very careful about with GM300/Maxtrac you're buying on ebay. Looks like some have the 5-pin accessory connector, others the 16-pin. Otherwise seems like a perfectly good radio for the job.
You may have already looked into this, but MobilinkD...
Garbinator, lets keep Fireside Chat in Fireside Chat and try to be constructive and informative around here. Nothing you just said has added to this conversation.
Don't worry, the ham call sign will be much easy to remember, you can even get vanity calls if you like. The GMRS signs are a bit longer and less memorable.
Yeah, this isn't the first conversation I've been in where the parts got mixed up. ;) Best I can tell where the confusion comes in regarding business radios on GMRS is because older business radios used the "Dot" frequencies, some (all?) of which have been refarmed to GMRS, MURS and other...
Can you post a picture of said sticker? Because mostly they aren't. If you check the FCC certification database you'll see most Baofengs are only Part 15 certified (which is required for every electronic thing under the sun) and only a couple are Part 95 certified. They have a Part 90 business...
Just have to point out... both of these are illegal. GMRS radios are type-certified and have to be approved for use on those channels; any old UHF radio is not going to be approved for GMRS. Also, unless your company has had a GMRS license since prior to 1987 GMRS isn't license for commercial...
