I don't beat the crap out of my trucks offroad, but I do access remote camping spots down active and deactivated logging roads, and what I would consider 'vehicle trails' where you've got to get out to check clearances and fold the mirrors in to fit between trees. I did damage the side steps on...
That's the plan hopefully. I wasn't happy with the mass produced stuff and couldn't afford the custom stuff. I am hoping itll last us until we're too old to comfortably climb into it.
Well, I just got an email from photobucket saying that my account no longer supports image hosting. They will support it if I pay $5 a month, but I am cheap. I need all my money to finish this camper! So no more photobucket for me.
Got a bit more accomplished (there is so much sanding).
Here you can see the pop up section of the roof cut out and the window holes cut out. The fiberglass has been completed over the top half of the camper and I am now using fairing compounds and epoxy to smooth it all out flat.
Ended up...
I am pretty sure that firearms are not permitted in our national parks, so you won't be able to bring them hiking there. I believe provincial parks are ok to pack a gun. You'll probably get some funny looks though.
I'd also recommend the bear spray route. I've spent a lot of time in the BC woods for work packing either bear spray with bear bangers or a shotgun. Deployed both a shotgun and bear bangers in the bears (both black bears) general direction to scare them off. Never had to deploy the bear...
It'd be interesting to see if certain age demographics play a roll in these truck purchases. I am talking newer purchased vehicles, purchased as a primary vehicle for personal use.
I get the impression that midsized trucks are more of a life style vehicle. Whereas the full size is more of a...
Sorry for the late reply.
After researching and pricing out the motion windows I decided to go with the Arctic Tern windows. It's tough to find anything negative about them online and everyone that has them seem quite pleased. Ordering from China directly would have only saved me about $200...
I'd be really surprised if it had a 1700 lb payload.
I had a 2014 Ram outdoorsman, quad cab, 6.4' bed with the 8 speed and Hemi. My payload sticker showed 1450lbs. I have a friend who owned basically the same truck, a 2015 with the EcoDiesel and his payload was in the 1100lb range.
With the...
I had a Ram with the air suspension, not sure how similar it is but pulling the fuse for the air suspension system in the Ram would make it stay at whatever height it was when the fuse was pulled.
I would just get a 'service air suspension' warning at start up. Nothing else seemed to be affected.
I jumped on a 2019 6.2 because I am leery of 'new' tech as well and wasn't sure if the 6.2 and 6 speed would be available in the 2020 model.
I ve heard a lot of good things about the 6.2 and 6 speed and was burned once already by the dual clutch transmission in the ford focus. Didn't want to...
It sounds like you know what you want (Tacoma) and you know what you need (a full-size). Tough decision and there will probably be regrets unless you get both.
Not only that, but also the idling time. I don't know about where you live but in the frozen north diesels are left idling everywhere.
They take forever to warm up so people typically start them way in advance to leaving.
Going out for dinner; there are always several diesels idling away in...
It's my understanding that diesel does have more energy than a comparable amount (weight) of gasoline. Diesel engines are also built more robust to handle the higher compression ratios of CI making them arguably longer lasting. Diesel is also less volatile than gasoline, making handling it...
I am thinking this guy may have already bought something since he started this thread 5 years ago.
I'll second the havalon knives though. I pack a grohmann knife with a fixed blade but it rarely gets used. I've used the havalon to process everything from rabbits to moose.
How big of a flat deck? Does it have stake pockets? I'd be tempted to build some sides and a roof on it. Out of sight, out of mind.
Also might give the bikes some protection from the elements if you care about that.
Awesome! I will be following. I am on the fence still about the lifepo4 batteries or AGM. Going to buy all the components at once when I finally decide which way to go (likely this summer).
I am limited to space for 2 batteries so the extra amps of the Lithium means I can run induction. If...
