Fleetwood Neon Modified for off road

How'd they mount that, straight through the top and brace under the headliner? I'd love to share info on the springs-- I'd like to find a combo that can dial it in. I'm going to run shocks, too. Just figuring out the frame layout this weekend.

Custom axle--what tube to use, DOM?

Thanks for the shots. Similar to what I was thinking-- I'll grind my ends this weekend and get the axle ordered. Still figuring out a couple frame options then ordering the rest of the steel. Still have to figure out springs-- looks like final weight will be closer to 1600 lbs or so. Which...

Custom axle--what tube to use, DOM?

Yes, Mike---that is correct. Off the back of a Disco1 from the U-Pull place. Cut off both hubs rather close to the hub, was going to chuck them up on a lathe and cull them out to 3". I'd love to see the photos--thanks! That sounds easier... also sounds like a better fit than the 3". I saw...

Fleetwood Neon Modified for off road

Thanks--I will check those springs out. I just received the hydraulic over electric brake actuator and starting thinking how I could add a parking brake. I found these e-brakes/parking brakes that drifters use that are hydraulic and I am 99% sure I can add one in line between the actuator and...

Custom axle--what tube to use, DOM?

I am constructing my own axle using the hubs cut off a Land Rover. We are going to lathe the hubs to fit a new axle tube--looks like it will be a 3" axle tube and I am looking for advice on what size/type tube to go with. This will go on a modified Fleetwood Neon and used off road, leaf spring...

    Started my trialer build today.

What size DOM did you use on your axle?

Fleetwood Neon Modified for off road

I wouldn't coat it--see post (12) above---talks about the Weyerhaeuser Strucurwood and explains why you don't want to coat it. I am leaving mine bare, at least for now, as you won't be able to go back... I just had a change of direction on the axle situation and officially started accumulated...

Fleetwood Neon Modified for off road

Nothing worth showing yet--I am accumulating the materials, though. I decided to build a complete frame and then cut off the existing front triangle and weld the existing frame to the new one. I plan to order the axle at the end of the month along with the steel, so expect to see a lot of...

    UAV-TT (off-road tent trailer) build

How'd you like your suspension set up? I wanted to have started my build by now but my wife needed surgery so first things first. I plan to emulate your set up for my neon-- seems like a decent way to go and I'd love to hear your pros/cons on what to avoid and such :-). Fantastic build up!

    UAV-TT (off-road tent trailer) build

How do you like the suspension? Any changes if you were doing it again? I'm assembling my Neons game plan and suspension choice is still In the air...

Dstock's M101A1 build... or the reality, I needed a new project!

Awesome--thanks so much!!! Did you ask for anything special to get it with the parking brake? I need to make some final measurements and get my wheel spacers so I can dial in the axle width, then I am going to order....

Fleetwood Neon Modified for off road

Weyerhaeuser Strucurwood. They are very proud of it! Still looks perfect. Trailer was sold first in 2006.

Fleetwood Neon Modified for off road

Does anyone make axles with a 5x6.5 bolt pattern and electric brakes? Or can do with a up charge that is reasonable?

    UAV-TT (off-road tent trailer) build

The independent suspension is really sweet-- I may have to look more closely into this... Great build.

Fleetwood Neon Modified for off road

Here are some photos of the underside. I am not too worried about the COG of adding the subframe--it wouldn't raise it too much and you will already see how they are "lifting" the springs which I am not a fan of whatsoever particularly in terms of durability when it comes to off-roading. You...

Fleetwood Neon Modified for off road

We bought a Fleetwood Neon at the beginning of the summer and now that we are moving into winter, I am going to get to work modifying it for more off-road use to tow behind our Land Rover D90. I am going to add softer springs and a new axle with 10" brakes and wheel adapters to the rover...

2006 Fleetwood Neon - Compact Pop Up / RTT Alternative - Trail Ready in Virginia

I have a neon and love it-- minimalist and fits our lifestyle. Perfect for 2 people (with dogs) or 2+1 kid, tops.--- narrow width and outboard tires work great on Colorado trails and modifying to larger tires. GLWS!

    Tire size effect on trailer

I'm curious too. I have a Land Rover D90 rolling on 33's and recently bought a fleetwood neon which rolls on 205/35-10. It is not a noticeable tow behind the truck nor a significant decrease in mileage. I rides lower than the box that I drive down the freeway. I am about to do a axle/wheel...

Post pictures of your Land Rover.

My Rover, Max. New to ExPo--what a great site. Interested in building my own trailer, so I have been here more and more. It will compliment my D90 which I built from a frame up, including all the mods along the way. The trailer build should be fun! It has to haul my wife and 3 dogs---hence...
