There’s a user on TacomaWorld who’s done a very extensive (real data) analysis of halogen vs HID vs LED, it’s worth a read. As I recall, the LEDs had the least throw/distance. From my limited experience of OEM LEDs in one of my cars, I tend to agree. I ended up with ultra bright halogens in my...
I have a ball valve with a quick release, but that’s far from flush/surface mount, so probably doesn’t help. I do love our Loc-Line with shutoff as a faucet - very versatile stuff.
CONGRATS!
When life gets hectic, I find it important to remind myself that toys can be placed on the shelf and returned to when the crazy levels drop to a manageable level.
Looking forward to see what’s coming.
Avenza is free and has all of the USGS maps for free. It seems they’ve also partnered with USFS, so all the MVUMs are also free. Same with many national parks maps. There are also many paid maps available. All can be layered.
Only downfall with Avenza and the others is downloading what you...
I don’t have exact numbers, but have this arrangement on my 3rd gen DCLB. It has rake when unloaded and sits perfectly level when it’s fully loaded for travel. I have a platform (only 3/4” ply), mid rise shell, and sliders on it 100% of the time. I think you’ll see more people go with 887s, at...
This is true. The 2nd and 3rd gen Tacoma long bed is 74”. A 4Runner with the seats down is even longer... likely the same for Nissan.
The Toyota Tax is real. I love my Tacoma, but I also loved my Ford Ranger. It did everything we asked it to. There are good domestic options out there.
Partly :p
Glad to hear about your experiences at the North Rim.
A big concern is volume of traffic on off road trails where you need a permit to camp. In these spots, due to the distances involved, you usually only see the limited number of permit holders on the trail. But anyone can day trip...
Do you feel like telling more about your decision to go with a poly rip stop? I have always been curious why poly was good enough for the tents used by teams to mount Everest (or similar), but overlanders are married to canvas and other heavy fabrics.
One good option is Canyon Coolers. A little more affordable than the big names with equal to better performance, depending on who’s doing the testing. Lifetime warranty. Bear certified. Assembled overseas of American materials.
This would be okay.
I’m concerned that this decision means that UTVs must be allowed in the same places as other licensed vehicles. Perhaps we need more information, but the article says, “Nov. 1, when these vehicles may be allowed on both main access roads and back roads like Canyonlands...
I live in the suburbs of Salt Lake City. People are often driving their licensed UTVs in the neighborhood and to the grocery store. It’s silly, but do what you want.
I can’t imagine UTVs on the dirt roads in the Canyonlands - their speed and mobility may drastically increase the day-use traffic...
Amsteel Blue.
My experience is from sailing, so I’ve only sourced it from marine supply places in the past - they have a few UHMWPE options, depending on need. Vehicle recovery soft shackles are the same as marine soft shackles, but usually a little bigger.
My wife and I went from a tent to a truck/platform/shell - no frills, very simple. Love it! We probably do 20-30 nights in it each year, which was a bit more than the tent as it seems to be easier/faster. We have a mid-size Tacoma, so I can only think that a Silverado would have more room. If...
