Skinning the interior box. This one will receive rivets because I'll have inspection areas that I'll need to get to just in case of mechanical failure or service. Not so much worry here..they're going on pretty quick

Success. Hard to tell from this pic but this panel is pretty close to 100 deg as it's been in the sun for a bit and can't touch it but so far very little warpage with strips every 6" and all along the edges. 3M claims there will be virtually no visible warpage due to heat unlike bubble prone...
I'll call it a little bit of a stress creator. 3M VHB 4941 tape unlike welds and rivets there is virtually no room for error. This stuff is so expensive and if your panel doesn't line up once you lay it down if you don't have the special removal tools then you have the potential to ruin the...
While waiting for some other skins to get bent I was able to rout out the front window opening. This will be hidden behind a tongue box so rock protection won't be an issue. I will also be making my windows from 1/4" smoked plexi that I have an abundance of.

Thanks. It had been on my mind..I also was considering a bottom hinge as well with steps but we will be pretty close to the ground that a step stool will solve the step issue. Usually these types of campers have two side hinge doors that operate as stable doors operating independently but I...
Got the door fitted. Since it sits on two planes exactly 1/2" apart (created by need for weatherstripping) it fits a drawer slider perfectly. I had 16" drawer sliders laying around since I'm a cabinet maker and although the door travels 19 1/4" I took out the limiters on the drawer slides and...
Luckily I can still keep the lead screw and was able to find a bolt casing with the same threading and spent the morning encasing it in the new carriage system. It will take a lot to break this thing but that won't excuse doing stupid things in the future

And with the rain that we desperately need in Los Angeles comes BAD LUCK. really just stupidity on my part. Being a wood worker i'm a safety freak. double check everything. I did so on the trailer before I operated the lift. How that one clamp that was pointed skyward slipped my eye I don't...
Not sure which way it will orient but this way is a perfect fit. I didn't want to have a permanent vent out the top so I might just make another access lid/storage compartment above it that can act as a vent when the tank is in use

I want to be able to step on the fenders so most likely not. I will probably weld steel to the frame to shape the fender wells but won't attack that until the axle and wheels are on so I know where everything sits. I'll also have to be careful where the aluminum and steel are closest to each...
Yes there will be. I've alotted 1/2" for weatherstripping plus about 1/4" of compression to the weatherstripping when open. The inner box at the top rail is like a "7" and the outer box at the bottom is like an "L" so the two pieces will completely lock together creating a weather tight seal...
Got the side skins fitted and just a bit out of square at the tail but easy to adjust. Now I really get to slow down because with the VHB tape on the way if I don't make sure all my bases are covered meaning I don't need to access anything in the walls after I apply the skins needless to say...
Great having sheet metal guy as a neighbor...gave him measurements and had the first two top edges bent while I waited. Because I'll be using 3M VHB tape I'll have to do the cap piece later so the tolerances are tight all the way through. Great to be able to bond and waterproof all at the same...
So even without the gas springs assisting the lift this little Ryobi 18 volt angle drill running off my jobsite xantrex battery pack lifts the top with out so much as a squeal or complaint. My guess it's lifting 200lbs static weight but probably pushing on 250 or maybe 275 on resistance with...

Hope the link works but just to update that aside from some minor adjustments the lift works! Beer time!

Looks more like a space age phaser but got the motor coupled to the screwdrive. A little bit of sanding down in the screw got it to fit into the 1/2" coupler and the motor side was a perfect fit. Very little to no vibration which is no big deal but for testing purposes I'm only using the...
