The brown desertscape eventually gives way to snow capped mountains and an abundance of green making for a rad drive. Killer lunch at Copper Top BBQ and another top-off of fuel and we’d make a straight shot to the Buckeye Hot Springs up near Bridgeport, CA.
Off the 395 we head...
That morning we were to meet with Bravo & Ashley in Kramer Junction to make the journey up the 395 together. Having a bit of time before needing to leave allowed for some wandering and even a bit of shooting which I haven’t been able to do for a while. An activity which is unfortunately popular...
It was roughly a month before this trip began that it was in the talks with Candace, Ashley, Bravo and I. Some vague plans and ideas were in place but other then that it was going to be a “play it by year” kind of trip, which is sort of unheard of from my personal strategy. Usually everything is...
First trip was a success. No issues other than losing a clearance light to a tree branch, ha.
Trip report coming soon...

Well. Nothing like poking around a bit on your new purchase and opening pandora's box...
I had a gut feeling that something was rigged under the misc plates mounted to the exterior roof, but one of those things can't really pry it apart before you buy it.
Driver side rear corner - uh oh...
Just picked up my first camper and couldn't be more stoked. Been on my mind for quite some time on how versatile a popup camper would be in a offroad/adventure setting. Few weeks ago I began the process and started research - and of course found this sub-forum and gained a lot of motivation and...
That's exactly what I'm doing, as well as other vehicle I've owned...
Just sharing my personal experience which is not to be compared to yours or anyone else's.
I can chime in here.
I've always owned gas vehicles and they've all served me well when used and loaded within their intended limits. With that being said, almost everything I've owned got lifted, bigger tires, accessories, mods, etc. Once that happens you take a decent hit in power and mpg...
Yeah, not sure how to decipher that one. I'm going to give them benefit of the doubt that maybe it was unintentionally phrased. Just spacing those two sentences out on different lines would have read different, but it'd hard not to view it as "people watching over that stuff? I'd like to go grab...
Thanks!
Yes, there are on-site care takers at Bickel's Camp. Unfortunately all of the other areas do not and you can see that by the way people have destroyed them over the years.
You could potentially spend hours here depending on how much you want to see. But for me it was time to make the trip home even though I had originally planned to camp again somewhere in the area. The harsh wind and covering all the main areas I wanted to see this trip made the decision a easy...
Finally onto Bickel's Camp. I was glad to see the gates open and a caretaker on site as that's the only time visitors are welcome on the property.
"This depression era mining camp was founded by Walt Bickel in 1934. Walk mined placer gold in the area using unique tools and methods he...
Short drive down the trail and I stop at the Jon-Jac cabin. Was there only a couple minutes before 2 vehicles rolled in and parked. 2 gentleman got out, introduced themselves and gave me a bit of history while exploring. Members of the Hi-N-Lo Off-Road group, they had previously done quite a bit...
First stop - Post Office.
"Originally a post office built in the 1930's to serve the community around and in Bonanza Gulch, the Post Office suffered from vandalism in the early 2000's. After being nearly destroyed, the BLM and historic cabin volunteers rebuilt and restored the cabin in 2006."...
From here jumped back on the EP15 to do a portion of the Bonanza Trail. On the other side of the hill is the Holly Ash / Calsilco Mine, a large pumice deposit.
"During the late 1800's and early 1900's miners discovered the pumice which was used for cleaning material. There was fierce...
Dropping back into the wash is where I decided to turn around and make the drive back to the intersection of EP15/Last Chance Canyon and EP30.
Heading back up Last Chance Canyon.
At the EP15 & EP30 intersection there's a piece of a trammel to help point travelers where Schmidt's tunnel...
