    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Time for another update. The rear is now stripped to framework, and the bulk of the AC system is removed form the front of the body. Just the internal units to remove (and poss relocate). The big question is, do I refit the large engine driven system (that we can't really utilise when parked)...

Caravanplus.com have gone 'email only'. Tried several times to talk to someone but get automated emails back, so alas they won't be getting my business. :(

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Hi VerMonsterRv. The double glazed units I looked at were for overland trucks, but the price is prohibitive, so I'm looking at other options. I have to take into account where we are headed in the truck, and the center of Australia regularly gets to 48 deg, so I've either got to have a very dark...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Hi Ian. Thanks re Heki. I had a feeling that was the case. I still like the idea of the MaxxAir 7500 but want to see one in the flesh first before I spend. That Vetus Marine hatch (assume that's the one in the pic)... Is it single skin Alli? Could it be skinned with insulation inside? Cheers.

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Hi VerMonsterRV and Wyuna. That's good info I like the look of the Maxxair 7500 with the 'smoke' lid. They'd be ideally suited to being above a shower and above a toilet. The only drawback is they are 12 volt, and I'm planning on going all 24 volt. They look a lot better than the Dometic Heki...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Once the roof sheet was off, I could ponder how much/little of the ceiling sheet I need to remove. It will probably all come out, but I figure that if I remove only whats necessary now then it gives me options later! I thought the external roof sheet was glued on well.... I had my whole weight...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

A little more progress yesterday after the ANZAC Dawn Service. I managed to remove the central roof sheet without trashing the outer side sections. Not sure how tho as it was glued on soooooo well! This has at least reassured me that I can just bond the solar panels on and not stress about...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

I managed to get one full day on the body strip over Easter, and it made a difference. I still can't get over how well engineered it all is!! No signs of corrosion either. Rear door removal and roof center strip next! I've decided that I'm going to go about the widening process by chopping out...

    Mercedes 1222A.. The beginning!

Slow but positive progress. I've all but stripped out the internal side panels, and now working on the floor. Prob a good job I have pulled the sides off, as A, there's no insulation in there, and B, it's all heavy glav steel that doesn't need to be there. Ply will be going back in once the...

    2002 MB VARIO 815D van...............

Hi David. Long shot... Have you still got the original wheels/tyresnto try back on it? Is it something to do with going up a size... Wheel sensors picking up a difference in speed?? If all the new tyres are the same size, brand and pressure then it should be fine...

Merkabah: MB 2626 AK 6x6 tipper to expedition truck conversion

Great to hear an update!! Glad it's still progressing!! It's looking fantastic, and great detail too!! Just keep going as the truck side of things is so close now. I'd leave the battery tray as standard, as if you ever need to change batteries when somewhere more remote, they would only carry...

Motorcycle or not on a MB 1120

Ha, sadly not... Gutting our body at the moment, and then plan on taking the crane and tray off the truck. The wheel carrier and rear bumper shape/design/fabrication would happen then, along with water tank fitment, (as I'm utilising a 500lt stainless tank I have,) which sits nicely between the...

Motorcycle or not on a MB 1120

I'm planning a rear wheel lift based on one of the tuck under tail lifts. In place of the fold out loading plate I would fabricate a fixed rear bumper that has the tail lights and two spare wheel support posts built into it... In this bumper I plan to build in two standard square receivers...

Adding A/C to an OM366LA in an 1120

Hi fella. Red Dot roof top ac units used to be very common in Australia on older trucks without AC. We've fitted a few to Telehandlers and tractors and they seem quite effective. I thought they were an Aussie thing, but found they are in the US too...
