When I lived in NYC my pickup was broken into every year or two. Tinting the windows helped but forgetting my GPS once saw a window broken and my on board tools stolen with the GPS. A week later with the truck empty and the glove box open the window was smashed again to get 65 cents in the...
Wow, thanks for all that information euroford. My van is a 99 and I wanted the earlier year to be sure to get the forged rods. I'm hoping that it's certain that they're in there. Since my van has 175,000 miles now I thankfully have a bit of time before I have to do the injectors. On the van it's...
I looked for a year and wasn't able to find anything under 100k so you certainly did well there. My build thread probably has most of what you're looking for since I've covered your first two points and am about to start on the third and will be doing the fourth on my own down the road.
Look...
Thanks guys.
The night time shots have become easier with the newer, more sensitive chips in the professional (and also amateur) cameras. These photos are both done with "light painting". To capture the stars you need a tripod and a long exposure. The ideal times are 10-20 seconds. If you do...
Wow, that's a lot of great info. Thanks for sharing it all here.
I have put a Hydra chip in and it's certainly boosted the performance. The heavy tow setting keeps the EGT down under 1100 generally. The next step up (daily driver?) really perks it up but I can't use it on the hills or the EGT...
So we only got a few hundred miles in after the differential swap before we hooked up the trailer and hauled off. Not enough to properly break in the gears (according to internet wisdom) but then again the shop didn't give any recommendations. Theoretically you should put 500 miles on them...
And you thought my van was only good for getting dirty! Ha! And the A-pillar was a good warm up as well. See, the Cummins will make a great sidebar to the 7.3 feature... wink, wink. :clapping:

Pretty well and much better than before. I'm going to post up later with a bit longer report but I think the 4.30's were the right choice.
Thanks! I didn't match the A-pillars and my boy, a very detail oriented 6 year old, noted that immediately and suggested that I paint the other side black...
Sorry for the delay. Once we picked up the van from MG we loaded up the trailer and took off for Crater Lake. We were having such a good time on the road that we decided to not come back after Crater Lake and took the long way home up the coast. We just got back and I'll have some photos to...
Last weekend my wife had the chance to borrow a Westfalia camper van through a company that rents them via an Air BnB sort of deal - Go•Camp. After putting so much work into my van I wasn't sure I wanted to spend a weekend in the Westy but I figured that it might be a good insight into what a...
Hate to see it go but I submitted your ad to Bring-A-Trailer. They used to be a great site that featured interesting classifieds around the country. Now it's mostly 911 and M3 auction site with a bunch of whiney commenters. Nonetheless it might be worth looking into their auctions because your...
I just read this over several days and was really hoping it wouldn't end with a sale. Fantastic work and perseverance and some great fab skills. I know how kids can cramp your finances but it certainly gets easier after they're in kindergarten - both financially and practically.
Personally I'd...
Paden Drivetrain
So after asking around it seems that the best place in town to have differentials done was Paden Drivetrain. They're old school - no website.
This might be a good place to include this video since I knew only sort of how a differential worked and this really explained it...
Man, you guys are worse than me! I have plenty to do on the van without doing custom layup work and this experiment was to see how the wood looks and works. I'll try to cover it and see once we confirm that it will work. MG has the panel so I don't want to go farther for the moment until we test...
So the things we didn't get to do before we took the van cross country were mostly electrical. The rear locker, the front hubs and some gauges to monitor the situation.
Towing made the need for boost, EGT (Exhaust Gas Temp), and Trans temp quite obvious so I ordered an A-pillar gauge...
SOLD!
I'm bumping this as it's sitting in Jsweezy's shop and I don't want to take up any of his space. New price is $250 or make me an offer. I maybe headed to Idaho next week to pick up our trailer so I could even deliver that far east if it's not too far out of the way.
