Answered my own question

I had this problem on an old VW diesel pickup I once owned. The pressure was so tight the fuel tank imploded! After I replaced the tank, I drilled a small hole in the gas cap, no more pressure issues.

Getting hold of the engine is the hardest part. After the tsunami in Japan, engines are becoming harder to source over there. There is still europe and australia, and some in canada but expect to pay 8-10k for a half cut (12k +) if your looking at specter off road. Then labor on top of that...
