they swivel 360 deg so side pulls are not 'feasible' actually because the hoop will swivel toward the pulling force negating any side forces on the hoop itself.. However, having said that, there should be some specs available on capabilities at different angles of the main hoop

yes, one of the many things I liked about the design. In your travels, have you had the need to repair any hub or wheel bearing issues? I think carrying a spare might be wise and will most likely give a call to george for his repair kit he sells.
