During the summer we will be forced to put our travels on hold while we return to the states for a series of weddings. During this four month period we would like to find safe storage for our vehicle in Panama. Does anybody has information in regards to long term storage of their vehicle in...
Oaxaca
After travelling through Northern and Central Mexico, entering the state of Oaxaca was like entering a whole new country. We began seeing signs of a culture different than any we had previously experienced. Oaxaca marked our entry into Zapatec country. No experience better encompassed...
We're getting an average of 13.9 MPG.
The hand pump works great. To be honest, I never knew how much the thing cost. I just looked it up and it's safe to say they're aiming for people who spend other people's money, engineers for example. That's too bad because it's a cool little product...

We haven't decided on any details - which company, exact dates, etc. We plan to ship from Colon, Panama to Cartagena, Colombia at the end of April and hope to share a cargo container with other travelers to reduce the costs. We'll definitely post more when we have the details!
My partner and I are currently 7 months in on an 18 month journey to South America. We departed in June of 2011 in our modified Astro Van and have so far survived our trek across the US and the first two months in Mexico. Our goal is to be crossing into Belize in February and into South...
2 bike - bike rack for 2" tailer hitch. Swings out so that you can have access to rear hatch without taking off the bikes. Easy to take the bikes on and off. Built by Land Rover. I'll be in LA until the end of the week, then I'll be in San Diego for the weekend.
Mesh on windows
Great question. This was something I realized the day I was welding them in. Unfortunately it was too late. I was under a time crunch and was not afforded to the flexibility to do it the right way. The right way would have been to weld a frame around each window then bolt...
That's exactly why we caged the back. Driving south of the border. However, the cage has proven to be a great way to increase storage space. A couple of bungie cords and S hooks allow us to hang stuff up everywhere.
It's not a sportsmobile, but it's not $80K either.
Not being able to afford a Sportsmobile, or even a synchro, I opted for the more affordable astro van. Below is a list of the mods:
4" Suspension Lift - Kit purchased from overlandvans.com
265/70/16 BF Goodrich tires
7 Gal Water Resevoir...

Michael,
I'm writing in response to the post you made on the dual battery system management thread descirbing your dual battery arrangment. I love your setup. After reading post after post and doing a bunch of research what you have just seems simple. I think it's going to be the best...
Thanks for the link! I did not realize until you pointed it out that you were sacrificing your AWD with the upgrade. My intentions are to create a utility vehicle to drive myself and my girlfriend down to South America. We do not intend on using it specifically for overland purposes, just...
Hey T.Low,
The transfer case on my 2003 Astro needs to be replaced and I figure since I'm going through the effort I might as well upgrade to a 2sp such as yours. I know you had to do some welding in order to fit your S10 transfer case in. My question is how do I know which transfer cases...
