    Firestone tires

I have about 10,000 miles on a set on my Toyota Tacoma under all conditions except deep mud. I agree with most posters here. The #1 one drawback of this tire is the lack of siping. Other than that, it's a great tire. - ADV: tough compound, E-load tire, inexpensive, good in moderate mud, quiet...

What vehicle to purchase? (college student on a budget)

If I were 24 again and could retain all my hard-earned whizdumb, I'd jump all over an older but well maintained Subaru station wagon (4WD/AWD). Given your rally cross experience, you won't have any problems 1) navigating snow-covered forest service roads to access remote trailheads, 2) doing...

Any suggestions for a Westfalia style kit to put on aluminum utility truck topper?

I think you'll need to go through Sportsmobile to get what you're after. There is another company in Colorado (name escapes me...you'll have to search) which is new and claims to be able to do various pop-top modifications. I don't have any experience with them nor have I read any endorsements...

How many psi in air bags?

Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.....do a search on Google videos and behold the second oldest race in NA. Regarding rocky roads, I've found the right technique FOR ME is to go ahead and shift into 4L where the road gets rough and then row around between 1st, 2nd and 3d gear. Although I had...

Sky Cranes Fighting Forest Fires in eastern Arizona

The Erickson Sky Crane pilots did some fantastic work lifting and placing ski lift towers for a ski area I worked at in the 90s.

    The Eighth Deadly Sin

?? Lemme take stock here for a second.....black leathers, hooning around town on a Triumph Scrambler, some bits and bobs hung on it by a neuropsychologist and a fat price tag. That is, ummm, G-A-Y.

The one Bigfoot camper you don't want...

Holy crap, I couldn't stomach attempting to take that thing on anything beyond improved/maintained dirt roads. I can't imagine the amount of wallowing it must suffer from. I'm not into naming vehicles but that one is inspiring....the USS Deep Fryer.....the USS Cholesterol Caravan....the USS...

How many psi in air bags?

You'll never solve all the undesired load movement of a camper in a small pick-up. Even if I boxed the rear of my frame, I'm still going to have some sway and rocking on bumpy roads. Bumpy roads to me means buried rock, loose rock, big ruts, etc (washboard roads are another category, IMO....I...

    An Axe - Seriously?

Boy, did I get a bum deal. I'll bet that umlaut on the handle sure cuts wood a lot better than my exact same hand axe from the lowly peasant nation El Salvador (with an American hickory handle) which cost $60 less but doesn't have an umlaut. My campfires will be inferior and I feel so...

    Awning questions

Hannibal makes a slick awning but I'm not sure if the walls are being imported anymore. Eezi-Awn also makes an awning with walls available in the US. Fiamma makes several awnings with quite a few wall options but they're pricey. Quite a few reputable vendors frequent these forums....dig...

How to stop side to side rocking?

E-rated tires will stiffen up your ride quality quite a bit. Air bags will help significantly, too. I have a FWC camper in the back of my '02 Tacoma and I get the side to side rocking on blue FS roads but it's never unusual or distracting for me.

    Camper and Truck Photos

Hi Nathaneal :bike_rider:, The awning is great and yes, it's a Fiamma F35 Pro 1.8m model (the case is 71.5" end to end). I bought it for the sun and rain of Florida (upcoming move) where I know we won't surive without it. We didn't use the awning on this trip in Colorado since the sunshine in...

    Camper and Truck Photos

Some summer vacation pictures :D . Just after cresting Los Pinos Pass. On the way to Cinnamon Pass (CO) from the Lake City side. My 2 y/o daughter watching "Wonder Pets" on Mom's new iPad. It was hovering just above freezing outside but toasty inside. Tried to go over Ophir Pass but...

    four wheel camper customer service

I honestly don't know how Stan keeps up with the traffic as he's nearly the single point of entry for 4WC here in the forums and on the phone. I have had nothing but spectactular service from everybody at 4WC to include Tom Hanagan (owner). Your disappointment seems reasonable but I think...

Bumper with swing out or no?

Welp, after two weeks of 4 wheeling and camping in our 4WC, oftentimes moving every day (ergo, loading and unloading everyday), I've made a decision to keep my spare in the stock location. For now, it's a perfect design. If I have a flat bed installed (www.uteltd.com) and have 4WC build the...

Bumper with swing out or no?

I'm currently in the same decision-making point as you. As soon as I start pondering the benefits of a swing-out bumper and what I can add (air tank / aux fuel tank / other) to the cavity it will produce between the frame rails, I likewise think as soon as I've got the swing-out bumper...
