Utility Body Trailers
Just my 2 cents, but if you could find a frame like this: http://farmington.craigslist.org/for/3966735569.html
Obviously you or someone needs to be able to weld, but it is really not too difficult to get a utility body like this...
Mine is from the 'mini-truck' era. Its basically a foot shorter and narrower than the full-size boxes you can find on CL. It is the ideal size for our ventures. For sure, a too-big trailer can get you in a jam. Keep in mind that shorter is not always your friend when it comes to reversing...
Ironic you pose the question. I'm creating a rack currently that is like you box. It will sit atop the rear of the trailer. I want it for wood, but also muddy boots, etc.
I'm just curious why you are considering Sierra given what you already know? What are they offering that makes you consider giving them money compared to any alternatives you have in mind?
Matt, finding a trailer frame builder is probably worth your effort. He may even have 1 out back that's a close. When you're roaming the trails, the last thing you want is to worry about the frame/suspension every time you hear a noise.
That said, there's always good buys on CL too

Once you get your tires mounted, then I'd design the upper rack to set the RTT at the desired height. I made mine so the very most rear cross member can be removed should I want to slide something tall in the rear compartment. The rack makes it easy to mount an awning. Which for us is what...
Fiberglass units are EXTREMELY rare. If you don't want it, pls reserve it and I will make it worth your wild. But mine has been a blast to build and use. The biggest consideration is towing ability. Trust me, you'll find something to fill every inch. And soon, it's a load.
Great find. Good...
