POD: Homebuilt foam core fiberglass skin pop-up camper build thread

I'm a fan of a textured finish as you described, I'd probably lean away from white too. Just my opinion, mines white and I'm going to paint it.

    An expedition truck on portals...

We are Canadians that do a lot of desert racing in Class 1 and trophy truck, we leave our vehicles in the area. Check the distance from the Palm Springs airport, we fly in and out of there all the time as well as Vegas. Palm Springs is the easiest international airport I have flown out of in the...

    Birth of My Kimberley Karavan

Great trail pics, thanks for helping me with my vacation routes! How motorcycle friendly are the Arizona/Colorado areas that you travelled? We have a few dirt bikes and dual sports that we like to explore with. Thanks and happy trails! Mark.

In my humble opinion, less is more! Anyone else agree?

I am on board with minimalism, wife isn't!

Just when you didn't think a Chevy could get uglier....

It's just ugly, GM has been getting that way lately, I don't see any Dodge or Ford in there, maybe the UAW has cut back on the time allowed to carve the prototype model out of that big clay block. You could stack another 265 on top of the factory tire and still not reach the upper fender lip but...

    The Dirt Sherpa Build

[24hoursofnevada, for 30k, I might consider taking on another build:) That's reasonable for a full on hand built unit by a guy who cares about an eighth of an inch! Merry Christmas!

Build thread. . .18 foot custom box truck freightliner

Another good resource for the commercial truck conversion types is http://www.truckconversion.net/forums/ where a lot of units started out exactly where you are or earlier in the conversion stage. I built mine with full bathroom, full kitchen, everything permanently mounted so a rigging into...

Modern Camper / Trailer Construction is Garbage

There is a good thread in the Mitsubishi section regarding multipoint mounting. The deck should be mounted that way, not just the camper unless it is sitting directly on the chassis.

A Challenge - How Obese is your Rig?

There are some points of merit on both sides, 3/4 ton and up are stout trucks. We have a lot of high capacity rated 1/2 tons exactly as you state with more capacity than some of the earlier 3/4 tons but that is where I think some clever marketing is more at play. We have several trailers, but...

    The Dirt Sherpa Build

Good to see the progress, sometimes it is far easier and a lot faster to buy a couple of proven components like the lift panels and upgrade to the arctic sides and do it all at once. You are actually saving time and money down the road. Do you have a good pic of the lift panels? I'm just curious...

A Challenge - How Obese is your Rig?

Very much so. It is a good indicator of how much the vehicles we drive cannot carry. Considering what we see on out local highways, 3/4 ton trucks with 38' trailers and a 2nd trailer in tow with a couple of sxs's or quads, or a boat a lot of times being pulled by a largely inexperienced driver...

Modern Camper / Trailer Construction is Garbage

They are Diabond panels, nice and light, strong, they will curve on a single plane. They weren't bad for money, I quit keeping track of costs after I added up the first batch of receipts! They were sourced through a large plastics distributor and they are heavily used in the commercial building...

Ideas? Need a hard-side with four season insulation and propane heat.

Bigfoot, Northern Lite, Kodiak, or any other full fibreglass camper are about the best (had 2 out of 3) Arctic Fox is just a cold, leaky, windy pile of commercial camper with a name that implies otherwise (had one). I've seen the good ones around here, a little older but they are still in great...

Modern Camper / Trailer Construction is Garbage

I agree fully. It's profit driven like any other business catering to quantity. Bigfoot, Northern Lite, Airstream are the exception but pricey. I built my own rig out of aluminum framing and composite panels on a F-700 4x4 chassis after shaking apart 2 campers, 2 motorhomes, and a holiday...

A Challenge - How Obese is your Rig?

I'm shooting for 24 000 - 26 000 pounds with 120 gallons of fuel, 140 gallons of water, and all gear. Chassis is good for 34 000 pounds. Got tired of overloading my one ton.

    Ford F700 Build

The paint job sure blended things nicely, cool idea. You are a little more creative than I am...or maybe a little braver! Regardless, I do like it.

Who is gonna be in line to buy one of these?

"filters for nuclear, biological and chemical threats"......I had no idea the canvas sides on a pop up camper were that tough!
