Grassland, I feel your pain. This has been an on-going discussion within our house. We use to camp year round, with 4 season, Expedition Tent. But the Mrs., doesn't want to sleep on the ground any-more. We've stayed in Yurts, Cabins, Hunting Lodge's, and hotels - in an effort to get out. I...
TCP/IP via Radio, and LanSat are good back-ups when you're in the middle of no-where. My LanSat has a RJ45 Ethernet Port, cabled to the WAN port on my IBR900-600M Router. The Router is set-up as WiFi-as-WAN for use at the house, Cellular while travelling and LanSat as Fail-over. Disclaimer: I...
Correct. It's a pretty sweet ride, Good Power to Freeway Speed. Laser adapated Cruise Control. Quite. Good Navigation. Crawl Control on the TRD Offroad package.
We went with the Tacoma DoubleCab, Short Bed, TRD Offroad, the Mrs., said I don't trust Chevy/GM. So it was a no-brainer.
We'll put 300K on this one too.

After driving a 2016 Double Cab, TRD Off-road, and seeing the Delta between 2 yrs used with 20K on the Odometer and a new 2018 loaded - we have put a down payment for the Dealer to order one out of Distribution. They didn't have the one on the floor, and the Mrs., wants the Tech package.
LandCruiser's are a disease... Once you go to the 200, you'll beat yourself up, "Why didn't I do this sooner!"
In all seriousness - to quote Clay from XO, "The 200 Series is the best Off-Highway Vehicle made, besides the 100 Series"
Clay just bought a Tundra "Platinum" and had it at Expo and...
As it relates to Transits, Sportsmobile - does not convert them, they purchase the conversion from Quigley. As of today - Quigley still isn't certified by Ford on the 3500 Dually, due to weight restrictions. Quigley installs a 2" lift, and they use a 2 speed Magna Transfer Case. So you only...
This is the Transition Year of the First Series of the 80, It has a 3FE and different Auto Transmission, than the 62 series. It is seriously under powered. If you're want a Builder, you could put a 350 V8 or Cummins Turbo Diesel into it. We have 300K on our 88 62 sereies.
Unicat is a German based engineering company dedicated to the Off-Highway Expedition market. Composite Cabins versus Fiberglass. International Chassis using MAN 4X4, 6X6, Mercedes 4X4, 6X6, Unimog, and IH. There is no direct comparison to EarthRoamer on a beefed-up Ford500. In the...
It is very interesting! I posted photos of our discovered "new" to the Dealer, still hadn't been serviced. The RV dealer said they have one set-up, do you want to look at it. The Mrs., said yes, and back out into the yard we went. I crawled under it, up on it, into it! It's not the Rpod...
Thanks for all the great information and Ball Cap from Overland Expo. We are leaning to the 65 Dual Stage. The one we use today, is set a freezer only, using a cooler as needed. The DualStage 65, will eliminate the cooler need. See ya at NorthWest Overland Rally. DcG
The biggest issue with Dually's in an off-road situation is a Rock stuck between the tires and eventually causing one or both of the tires to shread the sidewall. The folks at Earth Cruiser prefer Super Single Hubs & tires.
Talking with David and the AEV Team, this Outpost II is a one off, spec vehicle. Built for Overland Expo and SEMA. There is no sleeping accommodations, today. This Jeep started as the Last Year of the 4 Door "JK", and they removed the body from behind the B Columns. It is an impressive build.

YEPPERS! It's really hard to get my head back into the "Work" game... I'd rather be out playing. Overland Expo is a massive mind melter... Back to work - David.
We went 1800+ miles round trip. 5 nights in the Transit Van and 1 night in a hotel. Several $ 100 dollars in fuel. We went down to "Make a decision," of Mercedes Sprinter versus Ford Transit. Well - I think my head blew-up. Now, I am considering selling the 88 62 Series LandCruiser to purchase...
Zybane,
Look up a company called Hallmark. They build-up Custom Trucks, to go with there Campers and Flat-bed Cabins. The quality seemed very high, I'll load a photo for OL Expo, when we get home. Also a different option, and story to share with you from Lance at EarthCruiser... More soon. DCG
