What an awesome trip Scott...I'm extremely envious. I just returned from 8 weeks on the road in my Tacoma and took SO damn many clothes I never used...so your clothing selection seems about perfect. Have fun and be safe man!
Cheers,
Brett
PS - The photo's load fine for me...
I'd never been to Salida but quickly realized why this town was a favorite of Brian's. Salida is a mountain biking mecca and has that vibe of a cool little adventure town. We came in just in time for lunch at the Fritz in downtown Salida...the owner was apparently a high-end chef in LA but...
We climbed up through the valley and onto a high shelf road with steep exposure to the right...this was the final descent into Salida CO and the views were absolutely spectacular.
The next day turned out to be a blast. After breaking camp and stopping at the historical train station at the top of Boreas pass, we dropped down into the valley, made a brief jog on 285 before connecting to the next dirt road that would carry us to Salida.
What made it fun was the...
We stopped in Kremmling just long enough to top off fuel and review our path to Brekenridge. Along the way we got a message from Brian who had fulfilled his wedding duties and was tracking towards us. The timing worked out and we met him in Brekenridge after taking an hour to check out the...
Colorado
Steamboat Springs was our first stop in CO. We arrived late in the day and spent a couple of hours walking the shops, eating etc before making our way south and reconnecting with the CDT. About 30 minutes out of town we turned right onto a smoothly graded dirt road and found a good...
CDT Day 8
Last night was another cold one...the wind picked up late in the evening and strong gusts prevailed throughout the night making sleeping restless at best. My standard defense during windy nights is to lash the interior bungee cords to tighten up the tent walls and stuff my ears w/...
CDT Day 7
The following morning we woke to relatively clear sky's (considering the number of forest fires that surrounded us) so the view from the driveway of the cabin did not disappoint. Grand Teton loomed in the background with the base of Jackson Hole directly across.
We were losing...
Foy...looks like you have either lived in, or traveled this part of the country....you hit the nail on the head. It's hard to remember some of these little details as you burn up the miles :-).
CDT Day 6
Today we are off to the Teton’s, so I’m super excited! Brian and I decided we did’t want to cook this morning, so we left the Hanna’s and their backseat monsters at camp and drove off in search of a breakfast spot “in town”. The Hanna’s caught up with us after breakfast and we...
CDT Day 5
Last night was the coldest night thus far. Despite the cover of my heavy down quilt I still needed to cover my bald head to keep from freezing. After eating breakfast and breaking camp we continued down the dirt track we were on passing a few cattle ranches.
As we descended into...
Way behind in updates!
Between a lack of reliable wi-fi when I had time to write, and the lack of time when I had wi-fi, I'm about 3 weeks behind in updating this thread. I'm actually home now, but will post up my notes and photo's over the next few days....
CDT Day 4
Monday was another beautiful clear Montana day…we broke camp and headed south covering lots of dusty gravel road before hitting 28 miles of pavement to Butte MT. We spent couple hrs in town gassing up, buying groceries and having lunch before hitting the dirt again. This next...
Thanks for all the comments and for following along :-). Don's question about the RTT is a good segue into reporting on the gear and set-up I used on this trip. To directly answer the question, no...absolutely no wear or breakage on my Columbus RTT. I've had several RTT's of different flavors...
CDT Day 3
We woke early (well, early for this group :-) and had a big day of gravel roads ahead of us. After a quick breakfast we started out on what would be our longest stretch so far. As we left the forrest behind, rolling hills gave way to grassy farmland with mountain views all around...
CDT Day 2
Saturday morning was another clear Montana day with not a cloud in the sky. The water on Upper Whitefish lake was like glass and fish were jumping all around. We packed up and drove south on the gravel county road until we hit pavement near Whitefish. As we hit the shoreline of the...
CDT Start - Friday
After last nights rain, wind and cold we woke up to a beautiful clear morning. Went into town and had a great breakfast at Jax cafe...you have to stop here if you are in Eureka! We started on the trail and decided to make it official, we just had to get to the US / Canada...
