I am not sure why this didn't get more intention. For towing air bags are a great option. You can adjust the pressure to suit your needs for each individual trip. What problems could you have with air bags, could they be vulnerable to punctures on the trail?
I have heard that was a problem but is no longer one. If you go MTRs buy them from a Goodyear shop so if there are issues it would be easier to resolve. I only known a couple people with the new style MTRs and they were happy.
No real advice just cautions. I would like to make the transition to "lighter" camping myself. My oldest boy is on board, my youngest can't sit still that long for in the Jeep for too long.

From my experiences camping and long distance driving is if you can take a trailer pack as much of the "camping" stuff in there as possible and as many personal or comfort items in your jeep as possible. If you occupants have what they want within reach it will make for a far better experience...

A Tundra weighs about 4K. Warn has an 8000lb winch for $400, If that is enough of a winch I would think that winch is on price and teh Warn reputation.
