The rear axle combined with 35” tires did not like the weight and there was a lot of weight that extended behind the rear axle. I re-geared my 2nd Gen to 4.88’s and that has been great for off road and around town, but guzzles gas at speeds over 65.
When the air bags were not being used, there was some slight sag in the back, but the suspension handled the weight decently well.
Remember, the beds of Tacoma’s are basically plastic so we were seeing stress marks on the bed mounts from the weight of the camper, which ended up being much more...
We are about to pick up our off road trailer in a few weeks and that’ll be our new platform. We also used a RTT over the bed for the past year and a half after we sold the Khaya.
The truck liked that weight/balance much better. As for how to handle the weight, I went with OME BP 51 suspension...
Oh Hi, sorry, apparently I have never seen @YukonHunter message. My bad. Long story short, we sold the Khaya to a Tundra owner. It was too small for our longer family trips and way, way too heavy for a built-up Tacoma. The CoG and weight balance was not good for technical terrain and I destroyed...
Ours is due any day now, we have been waiting over 18 months (originally told 14 months back then). We have been using a RTT in the meantime and we are very excited to finally have our trailer. Unfortunately, there just isn’t anything else out there that met our needs. I did look at a couple of...
Gotcha, yeah, it's gonna be about 18 months or more by the time we receive it. Which, considering the supply issues, isn't horrible. We are just really excited for it! I'll post up a ton of pictures once we receive it and will be happy to answer any questions. We are fully-loaded with all the...
Hi @hscoots, no, not yet. Some supply issues have slowed things down, as I understand it. The first batch of the new Comp model are almost finished and mine is following right behind it. Hopefully we have it in March, April at the latest! We are supposed to be living out of it this summer...
there are some good apps that locate the chargers for you. From what I saw, they were in motels quite a bit! When we run that trail, we will mostly camp.
Love the looks of these trucks! Unfortunately, there is almost nothing behind the company besides a couple of guys and some renders. I do hope they actually pull this off, however.
So great to see that they made that journey. A Rivian R1S is high on my list of options for my next rig. I’m 2-4 years out and will only buy an electric vehicle. I’m also hoping they build a camper van on the same platform as I might be more interested in that.
I’m not surprised to hear this! The new design changes are going to be popular and sourcing parts is a problem for almost all industries right now. If ours delivers in December 2021, that will have been 14 months.
We are almost to the point of making the down payment so the level of stoke here is pretty unreal! We have started our Build Sheet and picking out the goodies. My wife is already working on her decoration ideas and TetonX has a set of my SCS F5 rims waiting at the shop (rims and tires will match...
The deposit is refundable so no harm getting on the list! The galley was one of the biggest selling points for us since I love to cook while we camp. I’ll share pics of our trailer here once it arrived. Good luck with your search!
Hello,
I am expecting delivery of my fully loaded Hybrid Comp around December and I have also seen the Pando (and their other trailer in-person). I think when Lindsay at TetonX gets back to you, she will answer your questions and you will be very satisfied with her responses. I have been to the...
Hard to top a Wrangler on 39’s on terrain like that, but the other trucks did really well. I remember in another video that the Defender guy said he would go with the 3” subframe lift and a 1” airbag bump if he could do it again. Tons of clearance but no articulation. I wonder if he also had it...
