Tired of all the "crap" RTT's. So I made my own. - TERRAPOD!

it stopped raining and I thought I'd get some shots of the tent deployed and set up.

Got the new Terrapod SOLO roof tent mounted on the D90 today after picking it up yesterday afternoon.

Tired of all the "crap" RTT's. So I made my own. - TERRAPOD!

Got the Terrapod SOLO roof tent and mounted it on the D90 today between downpours. Very pleased with the tent and its design features. It gives me almost two feet of space the length of the roof rack for other stuff - like my 5 lb propane bottle, the 5 gallon jerry can of extra diesel and a bag...

Paper or plastic, or something else?

Metal plates are heat sinks - I have some nice vintage melamine plates that I picked up at a thrift store (new in package) - a bottle of spray cleaner and a quick wipe as above if in a dry place - otherwise I have a collapsible dish pan and a stove to heat some water on.

Tired of all the "crap" RTT's. So I made my own. - TERRAPOD!

Supposed to get my Terrapod Solo by early next week - excited! I get #2 - here's a sneak peek of SOLO #1. At 31" wide it will leave a strip almost two feet wide down the length of my roof rack for other "stuff" and the integral roof rack on the Terrapod will be perfect for attaching the...

What size Maggiolina to get for my 4runner?

Congratulations, that's an outstanding tent. I think the medium would be too large for the FourRunner and that's the right size for your truck. You can't go wrong with a Maggiolina - I've looked at just about every tent I could and I haven't found any better.

    New Defender News

I agree completely about asking why the Discovery 5 wasn't included. My TDV6 Discovery was a great vehicle that could swallow a cased seven foot interior door, get over 600 miles on a tank of fuel and easily walk up a tough hill climb that defeated a 109" Series II pickup on a trail ride. It...

Tired of all the "crap" RTT's. So I made my own. - TERRAPOD!

Chad was an industrial designer with Boeing - I'm a retired Lockheed Manufacturing Engineer (24 years on the F-22, 3 years on F-35, rest of my time was working on the C-130 and C-5 aircraft). One of the reasons I've got a Terrapod on order to replace my perfectly serviceable Maggiolina is how...

What size Maggiolina to get for my 4runner?

I had a Maggiolina for ten years and spent a couple of hundred nights in it. Great tent and no complaints at all but I recently sold it and have a new Terrapod tent on order. Check out the thread in camping equipment on them. I wanted something lighter and lower profile than the Maggiolina...

Tired of all the "crap" RTT's. So I made my own. - TERRAPOD!

I was wondering if you had some kind of ladder stabilization plate/bracket worked out for the tents and what kind of ladder you recommend? I have the 8.5' Extenda-Step from my previous tent that I could use - just wondering if you've found something better. I have some ideas but was wondering...

2020 Defender 110 Eiger Grey overland build

I agree - the P300 has plenty of power and lower differential gearing so it should be better off road in low range. Like you I wanted it to be as mechanically simple as possible with 18" wheels and no sunroof. I did opt for an upgraded interior with the heated and cooled seats along with all of...

    low/er budget camp stove review

And that's why I carry my five pound bottle in a carrier on the roof rack. I really like my sixteen inch two burner Partner Steel stove. When you are camping out of a Defender 90 smaller appliances are a good thing.

Seven dwarfs if they sleep crosswise... Chad is one of those oversize humans so he made a tent long enough for him to stretch out in. Looks great guys - I especially like your installation crane rig.

Tablet for multiple cameras, Gaia, G maps and music?

I'm pretty pleased with my Samsung Tab 2 Active and Bluetooth Garmin antenna combo - Ram makes a cradle for it that has the charging pins leaving the USB-C port available for other uses. I'm running Gaia on it and it does well displaying .gpx tracks, I mounted a 1.5" RAM ball to a low phone...

Tired of all the "crap" RTT's. So I made my own. - TERRAPOD!

Bill- You ought to drive over to Gainesville to Terrapod World Headquarters and check them out in person. It's the little details and overall design that Chad has incorporated into these things that convinced me to give up a perfectly usable Maggiolina for something that I think is far better...

Have the nose pieces for the SOLO model arrived yet? No shipping required for that one - the D90 is ready and waiting to drive up and get dressed up in its new tent.

    Autohome (Maggiolina/Columbus) ladder alternative

Its about 9' tall fully extended and I couldn't find one that is shorter. I like that this one has individual locks on the rungs - some only have one lock. Its worked real well for me for about eight years in all kinds of conditions.

    Autohome (Maggiolina/Columbus) ladder alternative

A lot of us use extendable ladders like this one because they collapse down and can be stored inside the roof tent or the vehicle. The original ladder for my old Maggiolina was painful to use.

How much extra fuel do you take?

Just filled the Defender 90 up for the first time since September - mostly running errands around town - and put 19 gallons in my now 23+ gallon capacity tank. I had 363 miles on the odometer since the last fill up which confirms my range estimate of around 400 miles on a full tank. With an...

    Options for flat-sided storage boxes?

I like those - need to do some measuring tomorrow to see if they will fit in some of the cabinets in my travel trailer. I'm sure they will be a good alternative to some of my Wolf boxes.
