Mitsubishi truck frame, suspension, wheel, transmission, 4wd comparisons

Speaking strictly about the Montero Gen I and Mighty Max/D-50/L200 Gen II, the frames are similar but there are several differences. Sway bars, trans cross members, and other subtle things. The Montero Sport is based off a much later L200 truck chassis, not the Montero Gen II.5 or Gen III.

    Afternoon Wrenching with my Kids

This afternoon the kids were milling around the house, so I suggested we wrench and spent a good time helping the kids install seats in their Monteros. Several years ago, Ray gifted a blue LWB to the Ranch. My daughter claimed the blue interior parts for her Monty, and my son thereby received...

My new '87 Ramcharger build thread

The blade wheels are growing on me. I like these rims, in particular, because they have the steel seat for the acorn nuts. The turbine wheels use the mag nuts, and I think I've had my fill of those for awhile. :ylsmoke: I appreciate the efforts, but don't need to take on a toadie. Your safety...

My new '87 Ramcharger build thread

@ Colorado Bill, The shackle flip is a definite possibility. I wonder if the current rear springs are sagged, as on the jack stands, the springs are flat with all leaves touching. I am hunting now for a 3/4-ton Dodge 4x4 to scavenge the axles as you've done. On the last Dodge that I lifted, I...

My new '87 Ramcharger build thread

The Ramcharger is an '87 LE model with 360, automatic and all the trimmings. The CAD front axle and 3.21 gear sets are not preferred, and will be eventually upgraded to 3/4-ton pieces. As to supporting the rear bumper, I will have some modifications to the existing brackets to contain bolting...

My new '87 Ramcharger build thread

Good day all, Thanks for reading through this post. I purchased the truck with the intent of building a multi-purpose truck to serve needs of the ranch, family camping, trailer hauler and sometimes driver. To begin with, I ditched the broken bug deflector as the first mod. Then we had a week...

    Gen 1 Montero Stock Radio

The single DIN radio has an RCA input in the back for the tape player. This could be exchanged for a CD or MP3 player. With the 2DIN radio, you choices are limited, unless you look up Crutchfield: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-kzM3gp6gtee/shopsearch/double_din_car_stereo.html Or, I can send...

    Found a dead cat....lets beat it!...Tires?

My Raider was really best with 31's. With a Gen II, I wouldn't think anything smaller than a 31. My favorite pic: Russell

Shocks, springs, and steering parts will be easy. Keep the existing axles for budget use. ;)

    Looking for a Samurai-Questions

When the housing industry was still good locally, our work included mass grading in valley and hillside settings. The observation and testing of earth fills occupied much time and put many miles on Tim's Sami over those 22 years.

    1989 Montero Build

I respect the creedo of do it once, and of the stock OE approach. I'm just trying to keep your Mitsu project alive, because they're great vehicles. :) Some of my SoCal friends used these guys for an engine: http://risingsunengines.com/default.asp For a time, the parts business paid for my...

    1989 Montero Build

    1. The engine search should not be fruitless for you. The 3.0L V6 was used for many years and in several chassis. 2. The exhaust manifolds are 1-year specific. So? I'm sorry you missed a crushing event at one yard in my locale, they had a really nice 89 that I couldn't save. There are more out...
