thanks! i've buffed them clear a couple times. in my experience, once they haze you can get them restored but then they will haze again quickly. i think the UV protectant is just a coating, at least on ebay lights (which these are). so once that initial coating is gone they just don't last...

changed out the fuel pump this weekend due the assembly seal leaking (and having 190k miles on the original one). already had made an access panel to get to the top of the tank years ago, so it was fairly quick. thanks to Number7 for the help this weekend finding the problem and fixing it...
