I just noticed you stated "no leveling kit". I hope that works out with the 35" tires. I can't assure you that you won't have issues, but I would like to know how it works out. I put a leveling kit on mine as I was pushing the edge for wheel size.
UPDATE:
First, let me thank all of you that cared to offer advice on the front bumper.
After giving it a lot of thought, I pulled the trigger on a Trail Ready with the full frontal protection. It won't have the modular features I would have liked but it looks like it will provide me with a lot...
CRolandLJ, Mep1811, chet6.7 & Regcabguy,
Tanks for the advice!
1. I was familiar with shipping handguns but I didn't know about it being illegal to use a firearm for self defense against animals in Canada (seems to me like the priority of lives is out of wack, but its their country and I...
Thanks so much for this advice, and... fresh off the trip I hope to do next year!!!
1. Sounds like you have the communications covered! I had considered a Sat phone, but the idea of carrying two cell phones is a great idea. I use ATT and had a difficult time in a lot of places in Montana. I...
More good advice and things to consider! This may be moving in a little different direction that what I originally intended, but right now I'm leaning toward the Expedition One RangeMax Ultra HD and have a bolt on bull bar fabricated to give me a little more protection around the grill. It may...
I ran a guide service for about 7 years and I was a pro for Jackson Kayak at one time. And... in fact I am looking for lockable rod storage. Is it fly rod storage? Shoot me a PM with some pics. It will be next year before I cross Southern Illinois, but I may be interested.
Both of these bumpers look as though they fit what I was looking for. I'll start doing some price checking. Thanks for the advice. When I pull the trigger I'll let you guys know.
Thanks for the advice and doing your part for our country. I never served in the military, but I think if I had I would have retired there. I've seen my share of death and destruction and lost friends in the line of service. I've been lucky, but always say more lucky than good. Thanks again for...
Btw....you have 10 more years to go... What agency do you work for. I retired as a Major with Greenville County Sheriff's Office, SC. I teach criminal justice at a university now and I love the summers off.
Thanks for that info. Yet another thing to put on the list! I actually wanted to get an onboard compressor but more for the easy access for tire inflation and other small uses.
2nd question if you don't mind. How are you with the stock alternators? Have you found a need to upgrade? I was...
Explorerinil, Thanks for advice and I think its a great point. For my project, I won't be doing any serious rock crawling in the Ram. However, the perspectives from experienced users like yourself is something for me to consider. My biggest focus on the bumper is a large animal strike (damage...
Ive been reading over your Ram Build and I'm quite impressed. The first time I saw an AEV Prospector was in 2016 at Overland East. I think its what convinced me to go Diesel with this build in mind. While I've had to scale back my original project I did notice a couple of items on your build...
I actually did ask and the salesman was kind enough to send pictures. I'm not sure about the angle, but there appears to be a very slight gap that (I believe) could easily be fixed with a bolt on or weld to give some added coverage. What I do like is the ventilation.
Nope, it was close but it fit. The exact tire I have on my truck is the BF Goodrich Allterrain Ko2, photo below.
EDIT: I just did the metric conversion of the 305/65R18 and it says its a 34 inch tall and 12 inch wide.
Just as an update: Based on the feedback so far, I went ahead and cancel my order for the Road Armor bumper. I'm looking at others suggested> Expedition One has a new Range Max Ultra HD that looks pretty sweet. It appears to be modular and similar to the AEV, but with better approach angles for...
I did put a front leveling kit on the truck. The 35's worked out just fine with no rubbing and the spare just fits underneath. This was a big deal for me at the time and part of my reasoning reluctance to get a taller tire.
No worries about hijacking....and if you have pictures post them!
Thanks for reaching out. I REALLY wanted the AEV. If you get a chance take a look at the Road Armor bumper. I responded to you and a couple of others on the thread and I left a link. I pulled the trigger on it a few nights ago because it was on sale and had free shipping. However its on back...
Gibby56, Explorinil, Ravenmad & PlainjaneFJC,
First of all thanks for the comments and complements.
1. I'm with you guys on the looks of the AEV. Its been on my wish list for over a year, but I have begun to pick up on the problems with the AEV from other post. The other positive for the AEV...
I posted some photos to the Full Size Dodge Thread, but given I had a few questions for the forum I thought it might be better to create a new thread.
After retiring from law enforcement I decided to purchase a new 2017 Ram 2500 and begin the process of building it for an Overland project that...
