Breaking a bead with the Hi-Lift?

I have used starter fluid many times. Over labor day weekend, we were riding ATVs and came across a guy who rolled a 40' mud tire off the bead. He had winched himself out of a deep mud hole but did not have a spare tire??? We helped him take the tire off the jeep. We layed it flat and...

    Bulk/Weight Reduction Ideas

Not really thinking in terms of family car camping...I am thinking in terms of remote primiative camping, kind of like hiking or canoeing. There would be no formal campsite/picnic table/fire ring/water source. Like what I imagine a true expedition might be. I am trying to reduce the amount of...

    Bulk/Weight Reduction Ideas

Another piece of equipment I'm working on is my moutain pie maker. I want to remove the handles and replace them with a 2' piece of light chain. This way the whole thing can nest in a pot and fit in my small kitchen box. I am still trying to come up with a latch that will hold it closed while...

    Bulk/Weight Reduction Ideas

I was unpacking after a 4 day outing over Labor day, and thought “this is too much stuff”. I imagine many feel the same , but what do you give up? I’m not interested in exhaustive gear lists, just ideas for ways to save weight and bulk. I’m not drilling holes in my tooth brush:elkgrin:. Also...

Towing a camper with a SWB jeep.

I 've towed a lot of different things with a full size truck, but never with a SWB jeep. I'm looking at a 15' pull behind camper (not a popup). Could this be towed reasonably safely with a YJ? The jeep is on 35s with heavy axles and low gears. i know there is enough power but i'm not sure...

    Too Much Weight For Reliability?

Since you have come to your senses, i'll add my 2 cents. :sombrero: I have a a 1990 YJ that I too have been building for 10 years. I went against the grain for years and said the d35 was under estimated. Then i broke one then another. Not extreme stuff just, average. I was running 32s when...

    Bilger's Rocks, Central PA

I would think it's fine for kids. Little kids can explore, bigger kids can climb. The stand stone is not slippery. We met a family there that was having a ball. Ages 8 thru 15.

    Bilger's Rocks, Central PA

We checked this place out yesterday. It's called Bilger's Rocks. It's near Curwensville PA. It is basically a couple of acres of Sandstone that is maybe 80ft thick. It is a huge maze of crevices, overhangs, tunnels, and cavlets. There are many, many paths thru the rocks and many dead ends...

    Honda CR-V!

we have an 08 with 100k on it. My wife runs the wheels off of it and it never even coughs. I think you made a good choice. Some of the early CRVs have a removeable card table in the back. Did you get one of those?

    White water boats

I'd like to see that too:sombrero: I understand where the poster is coming from. I just got my first kayak, a giant rec boat. I'm a terrible kayaker but a pretty strong swimmer, so I try to hit every hole/wave I see just to see what will happen.

    E-FAN or Mech-FAN

I like a non-clutched, mechanical fan with a good shroud. For walking speed, low range 4x4ing, I've found this is best. For highway, anything works. I'm running a 17" reverse rotation flexalite right now

    Camping with Firearm-Post Bear Mauling

I sleep so soundly that in this situation i'd be done:snorkel: But if my number is truely up, getting mauled by a bear would be kind of a rush. I mean it would beat an extended illness at least.:ylsmoke:

    The "Expedition hat" thread

I've had this hat for years, it is nice and light, sweat dries fast. I started wearing it paddling this summer. When it's really hot I dunk it in the river, wring it our and wear it. At the end of the day I throw it on the dash board and the next day it is clean and dry
