Overland Journal Project Land Rover Discovery 4 (LR4)

Similar to my assessment of the tire when I was moving from 20" wheels to 18" + spacer although I didn't consider it to be class leading for dry rock. Locally it is a Pep Boys tire. I thought it would perform poorly outside the Southwest/dry/no snow or mud.

LR3 owners sound off, which tires?

Cooper Tires acquired Mickey Thompons/******** Cepek and design teams several years ago. Apparently the Cooper A/T3 was their first project and is receiving excellent reviews. Coopers own web site positions the A/T3 as a superior off-road/snow tire to the Zeon, which is more of a Sport SUV tire...

    Lots of snow this year...

Nice pic FJR! Colorado snow has been nice this year. Expecting a good mud season. Colorado drought is mostly over. SouthEast plains need some moisture. CA going to get some moisture over the next couple of weeks: http://www.weatherbell.com/saturday-summary-february-22-2014

Next Generation Defender must be "more desirable to look at"

I think you did. I view Land Rover as the UK's equivalent of the International Light Line Truck in the US. http://www.scoutlightline.com International Scout dealers were found at your local farm supply. Defender's were also your local farm implement. Both were sold exactly because of design.

Next Generation Defender must be "more desirable to look at"

I'll vote for fool because liar is just too direct of a statement on LR mentality. The Defender was the UK's agri/farmer truck. It sold precisely because of design. It IS's the UK's pickup truck.

    What 19 inch tyre?

I switched over to 18" for many reasons. Running GG AT2's in LT285/60-18. I needed load range E. If I didn't need load range E, I would go with Cooper A/T3's. LTZ's are rated low snow performance by Cooper. Looking at the tread pattern, I can understand that rating.

    LR3 Dynamic Stability Control

DSC is a combination of vehicle direction input, engine torque and brake pressure to assist the driver when driving in snow/ice/rain. When off road you should disable the feature. For your trek you should have turned it off. TC was trying to maintain forward momentum while DSC was trying to...

Opinions on this noise filter for my Yaesu 7900

Found this with a quick google search. Feedback on the 10a version http://www.amazon.com/product-reviews/B0002FR2AE?tag=dragon-shop-20&linkCode=sb1&camp=212353&creative=380553 It arrived with no continuity between the two hot leads. Took the unit apart. Discovered one inductor and two...

Overland Journal Project Land Rover Discovery 4 (LR4)

My GG AT2's were bought from Discount. Since I was moving from 20" to 18" I installed the spacers with torque to factory spec, remounted the 20" wheels, drove to the store with 5 18" wheels, they removed the 20" wheels and loaded into cargo, re-torqued spacers, mounted new tires on 18" wheels...

    Overland Journal: Discovery I, 5-speed

Surprised Florida vehicles don't rust given that humidity and precip are so high. (My reference point - vehicles from the W/SW)

"Rust Free" and "Florida" used to describe the same vehicle? Red Flag

    Lucky8’s Project Discovery 3

Thinking there is an order for system design here - Detection of faults that would cause vehicle to become immobile - Failure modes and remediation for end point design (33" tires, Johnson Rods, 18" wheels, etc). How do I keep that end point mobile? Bump stops, redundant air lines, ...... -...

FJZ80 to LR3, am I asking for trouble?

LOL. 80's series is getting boring. Got it. Want to move on to something not as boring as a Toyota. New challenge, move on to Rovers. Works for me. Went from Scouts to Disco I's to RRC's to LR4. Each vehicle requires good maintenance, including the Yota's. Drove all across the midwest plains...

New addition: 03 Range Rover MkIII. A few mods

My thoughts also. This is a electrical short/heat/fire that WILL happen. The only remaining question is when and where.

An airline rupture, isolation valves and changed bump stops

Thanks Jak. Excellent write-up One take-away - review all air line routing and double/add wrap at potential interference points.

LR3 Air to Coil conversion.....one year later.

There was a base LR3 available from the factory with coil springs. Also read somewhere that a few vehicles were imported to the US and South Africa? My concern would be that converting a LR3/4 to coil springs basically results in an independent suspension outcome. Range Rover Suspension...

Overland Journal Project Land Rover Discovery 4 (LR4)

I've off-roaded for years in Colorado with open diffs. From Jeep J10's to Scouts to Disco/RRC's. Today's TC is significantly better than early algorithms. The trajectory of TC capability will marginalize lockers. As Scott pointed out the LR4 modifications resulted in less wheel spin and the...

Overland Journal Project Land Rover Discovery 4 (LR4)

Ah, this thread wasn't hijacked for "tyres". It was the logical conclusion of a series of decisions captured in the thread. - Begin with a stock LR4, non-HD, 20" wheels and orientated toward the SUV customer. Transform it to a off-road vehicle capable of managing 7000lbs and surviving off-road...
