Best RTT to live in long term?

Setup and take down of a tent everyday gets old. A long day at work, a long commute in traffic, then have to setup camp? At least with a teardrop, you just climb in. Leave a cheap privacy tent for shower/toilet on the property. You may be able to modify your existing trailer.

"TrailTop" modular trailer topper building components

jscherb, just a quick thank you for sharing your concepts. You are a very talented designer. A lot of people on this forum build some beautiful and functional works. The difference with your stuff is the modularity (I hope that's a word). Keep thinking. I hope your stuff comes to market.

"TrailTop" modular trailer topper building components

I think a good bench mark would be the price of a good quality trailer mounted roof top tent. The tent would be lighter and the trailer would be shorter thus making the combo capable of more difficult terrain. However, a TrailTop teardrop would be MUCH more convenient. Given the same price on...

NOW you're talking! A 5 ft height would keep wind resistance down. The trailer would mostly tuck behind the tow vehicle. The 10ft length would give room for a nice bed and a sitdown table for short stays in rainy places.

How large a structure could be made with these components? Could a 12' standup be made?

"TrailTop" modular trailer topper building components

Here's a thought: A manufacturer could have a website with popular configurations. Customer selects one, inputs base frame dimentions, and out pops a kits with the needed parts. You have a terrific concept. It seems much stronger, lighter, and easier to build that a conventional TD. I really...

What is a 1988 FJ62 Going For These Days....

Three years ago, I paid $4k for an 85 FJ60. I had the money, I wanted it REAL bad, so I bought it. It was worth $2500, $3k at most. It needed a lot. Still does. I'm glad I bought it. I just wish I had driven a harder bargain. I think the guy would have accepted.

What is a 1988 FJ62 Going For These Days....

The price is really high unless everything is perfect. I'd ask who does maintenance, owner or a shop. If he did the work, ask when fluids were last changed? How does he change transmission fluid? If a shop, does he have receipts? Is AC original R12? Have all the hoses been recently changed? How...

    The Lost XR

Yes, I'm going. Trailering my XRL behind 95 Pathfinder. That way I can bring big tent, and other comfort stuff. Been wanting to go for several years, but it's never worked out.

My built from scratch brutally strong camper shell

I was thinking of doing the same sort of thing for an old Chevy k10. My thought is for the canopy roof to be high enough to sit up inside. Obviously it would have to be higher than the cab. What kind of canvas are you using? I would like to hear how it holds up in the rain. It looks cool. Kinda...

    New Subie!

Laxaholic: People are going to think what they want. Let them. I do think you have a dependable vehicle. Best bet is to get a factory service manual, a code reader and learn how to do the work yourself. Or, if you have time constraints as a student, see if you can at least learn to diagnose the...

Subaru owners: Let's see your expedition rigs!

Superu_legacy, I REALLY like your car. Do you have a build thread? I'd like to get more details on what you did, reliability issues, and fuel economy. Again, awesome car.

    Reflections: The Honda Element

I'm interested in seeing the replacement. Subaru's have a lot of appeal for me, but I don't know much about them. The great fuel economy is the most important feature. Durability is a close second. Simplicity is best, but complex is ok as long as information is available for the DIY mechanic.
