    Tire decision block!

Is anyone running the load range E General AT2's and are they too harsh of a ride for the LR4?

A couple of items: Cooper acquired Mickey Thompson / ******** Cepek in 2003 http://www.rockcrawler.com/features/newsshorts/03march/mickey_thompson_cooper.asp Per board discussions the A/T3 is the first Cooper branded tire developed by that team. Looking at the A/T3 performance assessment on...

    Tire decision block!

Some thoughts ............ While this started out as a LR3 discussion. all should consider the take-aways in the "Overland Journal Project Land Rover Discovery 4 (LR4)" posting/discussion. As Scott pointed out one of the critical factors for making the LR4 tire selection work was the narrow...

    Tire decision block!

Years ago I had General Grabber AT2's on my RRC LWB. They were one of the best tires in ice/snow. No additional sipping needed. Gripped like glue in Eastern Colorado white outs and snow packed roads. The only issue I have seen reported are balancing issues. Mine were fine. General's web site...

    Tire decision block!

Good point. Both are the same diameter. The 285/60 is generally 0.7" wider than the 265/65. The 265/65 will tuck/articulate better.

A question not asked ............... What is the maximum diameter tire that will fix in the LR4's stock spare location?

    Internal 2014 LR4 information

I've asked the dealer for torque curves and they can't find them or Land Rover isn't making them public. Agreed, the SCV6 is a better powerplant once the LR4 sheds 800lbs but towing reintroduces the weight issue. If you are towing at altitude, get the V8. At 5000' your down 16-17% on power...

At what point to do you give up on a D1? Can they be made reliable?

Agreed, Northern Colorado doesn't have a Rover shop within 75/100 miles. JC's is probably the closest. Locals could be clueless. The good thing is that there are lots of D1's/RRC's as donors. There are 4 RRC's in Denver's U-Pull-&-Pay. Typically also several D1's. Good for general parts and...

    Internal 2014 LR4 information

Loss of power at altitude is not about reserve capacity. The density of air is much less and atmospheric pressure is 10.1 to 12.2 psi vs. 14.7 psi at sea level. Engines are air pumps and compression >ratio< is simply the pressure above your atmospheric pressure. Same with Turbo's or...

    Internal 2014 LR4 information

In the Inter-Mountain West, take 20-30% off power specs. Broad torque ranges needed. Need hp and torque curves of each. This discussion ( http://www.xfforum.co.uk/threads/12737-V6-SC-torque-curve ) indicates the V8's torque range is "2,500 to 5,500 rpm with the SC version actually peaking as...

    Internal 2014 LR4 information

Would like to see a torque curve of the SC V6 vs. 5.0L V8. Suspect the V8/6-sp is a better choice than the V6/8-sp. Especially loaded, towing and/or altitude.

    2014 Evoque pricing revealed

The Evoque will do well in it's target market. The largest volume Subaru dealer in the world is Colorado Springs, Colorado. Snow country is a great fit for the Evoque. Even the LR4 will have a single speed transfer case as a snow country family transport. Neither are targeted at the off-road...

    LR4 facelift coming

Thanks! Good to know. I'll still stay with displacement for towing. Less stress and longer engine life.

    LR4 facelift coming

Superchargers are also affected by altitude. Less boost. So the scaling for altitude is the same. Edit add: Unless LR is changing pully ratios based on altitude :) Agreed on low altitude. Towing the TT across the midwest with the RRC and 240hp was fine. It was when I was over ~3-4000ft that I...

    LR4 facelift coming

Given that an engine is basically an air pump, a V6 will be inadequate at altitude. I'm already down 20% so that 340hp is now 270hp. Suspect torque curve is not favorable to the V6. Add a trailer to the LR4 and those hills/mountain passes are going to put a lot of strain on the drivetrain...

    LR4 facelift coming

As I have heard, the S/C V6 will be the base engine, with the V8 the upgrade. Also read that it will adopt the RRS Al chassis and shed 800lbs. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Disco4 move "up market". In summary the 'new' Discovery with S/C V6, Al frame and up level interior starts at a higher...

95 3.9 disco getting too hot

Agree with everyone, a 3.9 should idle or run under load at low speed without overheating. Have a hydrocarbon test done at the radiator plug to ensure you don't have a head gasket issue. I 'think' the threshold is ~50ppm. Above that and you have a leaking head gasket, pushing CO into the cooling...
