I would be mounting it to an Ursa Minor Vehicles J30 camper top and have two concerns: 1) would the fiberglass top be strong enough with four mounts and steel backing plates and 2) the overall length, both for aesthetics and because I might have to have the forward latches relocated. Looking...

I would be all over the Shadow Awn (or it would be all over my Jeep, I should say) if there was a shorter version. 2600 is just too long for a JK, IMO, but something 1800 - 2200 would work.

My Jeep is rather, umm, portly? with the Ursa Minor top and other mods and I'm happy with the Old Man Emu heavy-duty set-up. I'd also be comfortable going with AEV.

Do you know if this is a concern if the J30 has steel backing plates at each mounting point (especially if four, rather than two, mounting points are used), or only if it is mounted through the fiberglass alone?

Not off the top of my head. The cool part is that the awning is attached to, rather than a part of, the top, so you can change awnings if a better solution comes along.

In my awning research, I looked at everything from the simple and small Shadyboy to the huge Bundu. I ended up choosing the Scipio, a Hannibal-style awning from So Cal Teardrops (just waiting for it to come in). For me, the smaller (6') awning is a better fit, both aesthetically (the J30 is so...
