Originally we were going to drive our unit around Australia for a few months before shipping back to the US but those plans are dead now. So, it's going to be shipped back here and we will travel in North America for a year. We've camped in a Defender with RTT in Africa about 10 years ago...
All the cabinets are now in. We've got tons of storage and a very open space. Wish I could visit the factory every day! On another note, I'm revisiting the electric motorcycle option. We are looking at adding a diesel generator to charge the electric motorcycle. It can of course also be used to...
Here are a couple more shots. The first one shows the main electrical looms in and the interior cabinets underway. Next shot is the production line. Ours is the first one on the right.
In Australia, SLRV have the choice of every chassis. The MAN, I believe, is their most popular one. Age, parts etc was a consideration. Even though the Acela is an older chassis, the parts are easier to get and is was completely reconditioned here in the US. As I've said before, everything is a...
Just got this photo of the floor being installed. You can see the cutout of the access hatch if we need to get to the Allison transmission. They’ve also cut out the access hatch to the cab. The other floor cutout is for the built in stairs. Those are the wall panels which should be going up...
The Acela 6x6 has a turning radius of 54 feet. Not sure what it is for a 190” wheelbase K370, but I’m sure it’s a lot less. The K370 is, I believe, a chassis built with city deliveries in mind, hence a much tighter turning radius to get around. I wish the Acela had a better number but everything...
For us, overall length was very important so it was either the Acela or the K370. If length didn’t matter, I would have looked at International. In the end the Acela 6x6 ticked all the right boxes: ability to take it anywhere in the world, literary tons and tons of carrying capacity and a...
They’ve just finished installing the subframe. They tweaked the black and grey tanks to give me 37 gallons each. The 7kva engine driven generator is in. They’ll send me pictures on Monday. With regards to our travel plans, Covid19 has caused the feces to impinge on the oscillating blades...
Not much to update right now. Chassis was sent to get the rails extended a bit to fit the box. It’s back at SLRV now. They are starting electrical work on the chassis next week and then the panels go up! Then they start with electrical inside. I'll update with some pics then.
That's good to know. As you said, it's only to run AC for any length of time. I think our big windows will let plenty of air in. We have three 1200x600, one each of 1600x600, 600x600, 440x600 and 440x600.
Hi. After living in the Caribbean for 30 years, we have a strong aversion to the cold which means we will tend to stay where it's sunny! But I understand clouds and rain. We have 1780 watts of fixed solar panels and 1080 amps of lithium batteries. If running the engine is problematic, we at...
Just got this drawing from SLRV showing the Acela chassis with the box. It shows the integration of their hydraulic front winch (20,000 lbs) and bumper as well as the bush guard around the the cab and storage box on top. They managed to get 158 gallons for fuel in. I asked for space for a small...
