Adventure Riding Solo: Do You Do It?

I ride solo far more often than I ride with others. The 800GS that I ride most of the time is far from a lightweight, and after picking it up a few times, it'll sap your energy pretty quick. I've been in my share of bad spots on big bikes - and because of it, I'm a bit more cautious about...

    Two KLR's, which to buy

Very true - as long as you don't intend on spending a lot of time at higher speeds (IE: long rides down the freeway). For banging around the back roads and general exploring, the little bikes are *the* way to go.

Need Help Locating Makers of Over the Cab, Pop Up Camper Shells with Double Rear Door

A FlipPac (either the original @ flippac.com or the ruggedized version at Adventure Trailers) would seem meet most of your requirements. They use a traditional swing-up door in conjunction with the tailgate for access to the back - so no double doors, but you do have full access, just like a...

ARB fridge. Goal Zero Extreme 350 Power Pack

It looks like that is a 33ah battery - which means you'll get a usable 16ah out of it (you should avoid discharging it below 50%).

    Micro Focus Adjustment

I'll probably do it just to see . . . but it looks like Canon "introduced" the technology to their cameras in 2007. My 5D mk I is certainly older than that (which also means that there is no warranty). I haven't used the camera a whole lot - but I like to know that the equipment is right...

Unless of course you have a 5DC . . . in which case you can't make the adjustments. :(

    improving braking power on dodges

I had similar adjustment problems on my '99. I also had a self-adjuster that liked to loosen up over time and fall out if I didn't keep the brakes adjusted (then it would rattle around inside the drum). I ended up buying two self adjuster repair kits (consisting of the lever, self-adjuster...

slide in camper for short bed.

I carry a FWC Grandby on my short bed Dodge - there is really only one thing I don't like about it: The long-bed camper in a short bed truck results with almost all of the camper weight on the rear axle. A 6' camper would put more on the front than the 8' will - but as Bill G (above) noted -...

    Two KLR's, which to buy

You should probably go look at both of them. 14K isn't a lot of miles - and it's always nice on the pocket book to have a few things taken care of (doohickey, skid plate, bags, etc). But - if it was a rough 14K miles, or you don't like the way the bike was modified (cheap parts, poor attention...

Dirtbike Reccomendations for Hitch Mount Knockin About!

For better or worse - the T-dub has a feel all its own. My girlfriend didn't like hers, said it felt cramped and unstable. She's happier with a DR200. Personally, they're both on the small side, but still fun to go fart around the back roads with. :bike_rider:

Dirtbike Reccomendations for Hitch Mount Knockin About!

If you can get around that 55mph/2-up requirement, any of the 200/250cc bikes will do. 1-up, they'll do 55 with no problem, but it'll be pushing it 2-up. Any of the 400cc+ dual sports would do it.

Ride it or transport it? Tires...

^^^^ Yea - little bikes on the road get old pretty quick. Of course, big bikes in the [semi-technical dirt/sand/rocks] get just as old, just as quick.

    Tucson, AZ Monsoons

I was thinking that this year is better than any of the past 4 or 5 years. It certainly started earlier than the past couple - and we've actually seen rain on the west side of the Tucson Mountains (we don't get much on that side).

    Camper Trailer Axle Location!

It's all about the weight - particularly, 10 - 15% of it should be on the tongue. A nose heavy trailer is going to have the axle in a different place than an otherwise identical trailer that is tail-heavy.

Found a 1999 extended cab Dodge with cummins 4x4 85k looks pristine

Everyone has their take on it - but in general, regardless of which side of the sale I'm on (buying or selling), I assume aftermarket parts, or recently installed OEM big-ticket items, to be valued at about 10% of the material cost (no labor). In other words, the $5,000 transmission...

Ride it or transport it? Tires...

Once I air down, I usually stay there until/unless there is a significant stretch of freeway. For the typical 50 - 100 mile ride home - I stay at the lower pressure. Of course, I'm on a big bike (GS), so I don't go that low to begin with (18/20psi). Also worth noting, there is anecdotal...

Diesel powered Ram's from, say, Southern AZ to Co. Prices here appear pretty favorable, assuming that the truck in the first post is a typical price that they fetch up there.

Do they really sell for that much up there??? Someone with some time on their hands could start importing them and make a few bucks . . .

How much off road can they handle?

It all depends on where you want to go. There are light weight options out there (such as FWC's new hard side) - but make no mistake, any slide-in camper is going to be pretty close to a full load for a 3/4 ton truck. They'll go down the paved road just fine, but will leave you wishing for...
