    Clutch’s deep thoughts thread...

I'm in to my set up less than $10,000 including tires and maintenance and this trailer spread out over 7 years....still pulls 20-21mpg unloaded with 265/75r16s and 17ish with the trailer. Kind of considering a new Frontier Pro-4x with a manual since it really is the last simple truck but my...

    Tex's '18 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro build

Just curious. Why buy the pro just to ditch the stock suspension? This is seems to be a common thing to do and I don't get spending the money on suspension twice....

    2001 Montero Sport 3.5XS stuck in 4hi

Looks like it's the ball. I started taking the t-case shifter apart and as soon as I released tension on the 10mm surround nuts it popped back into 2wd. The shifter has always been pretty sloppy but since I had nothing to compare it to I figured it was normal these past 7 years..... Am I better...

    2001 Montero Sport 3.5XS stuck in 4hi

Hello all, I have an urgent issue that suddenly arose this evening on my 2001 Montero Sport 3.5xs with the standard 2hi, 4hi, 4lo t-case. I bypassed the vacuum solenoid to engage the front diff years ago and installed manual hubs with a toggle switch to make the computer happy and locked the...

Montero vs Montero Sport - and what issues do these rigs have?

The Sport with the 3.5 uses beefy components and is lighter/quicker than the full size with better fuel economy even though it already has 4.90s.

2nd Gen Monteros - Rare Birds - But Aren't Worth Much - Why?

As a former Toyota owner I am extremely pleased with Montero prices. They are realistically valued unlike some more popular brands.

Looking to build my first rig

No Toyota/Lexus will be a unique choice. If you have room I would suggest a car for a daily drive and an older SUV for adventures. Cost is a wash but the versatility is much higher and opens up the option to learn how to wrench and have something much more entertaining for the weekends. It's...

    Weak V6 a dealbreaker?

Probably be better off with a Tahoe or something along those lines. I find the 3.5 to be a great engine in my light weight Sport....not a fan of it in the 3rd gen but the 5 speed 3.8 is a decent combo on stock size tires.
