I recently picked up my Hallmark Gunella in Denver and spent three weeks driving cross-country back to LA, covering around 1000 miles off-road, and a lot on too. The entire process of dealing with Hallmark since first ordering the unit at the Overland Expo in Flagstaff in May 2022 has been...
And lastly, here's some pix of the places we got to go on the long drive home. After taking tarmac from Denver to Alberqueque for the eclipse, it was back north to Chama, NM, then over to Durango along the old narrow gauge railroad route, tarmac up to Ouray, then the Rim Rocker Trail from...
Interiors are obviously a very personal thing, and mine honors the memory of my godfather's little sailboat that I spent a lot of time in as a kid, hence a classic wood and navy combo, which I'm super happy with. These interior shots were taken on my second night out in the rig.
So now the build is done, and as those following me on Instagram ( @sumo2_is_my_name ) will have seen, I've put the finished rig through its paces covering almost 1000 miles off-road on a very circuitous route home from Denver. (more on that in the following post)

Early morning pick up of the final finished unit at Bowens, and I could not be happier about the work and the way the whole crew busted their asses to get me done in good time. I honestly couldn't give these guys a higher recommendation.
Got to spend an hour being blown away by the workmanship, efficiency, and design excellence (not to mention the serious weld porn!) at Bowens this afternoon. These guys are the real deal!
Yesterday was my truck's last day as a pick-up, and we did the 1022 miles from LA to Denver in 14.5 hours, holding between 70-80 mph on the freeways with a trip average of 11.1mpg. I'm super happy with the Lariat F350's outstanding comfort, it's one of the easiest long-distance platforms I've...
Next up, the all-important weighing to discover my final base weight, fully filled wth all upgrades installed.
Front Axle 4440 - Rear Axle 3240 for a total of 7680 lbs, so according to my door sticker rated maximum of 11300 lbs, I have 3620 lbs to play with.
It seems from reading posts around...
Two weeks to D-Day, that's Denver Day, and my visit to Bowens, Juniper and then Hallmark to finally become the rig I've been dreaming of for all this time!
In preparation, I finally fitted the very well-made and thought-out Bellfab skidplate and cat cover, which I'd give a two thumbs up to.
I have a whole slew of brand new and unused parts for my old FJ80 that I'd like to sell as a set, let me know if you'd be interested. It may take a few posts to get them all up, so be patient....
