F550 gear change -- which one?

What size are your stock tires? What terrain? Be specific. Comparing other engines, transmissions, tire sizes, and vehicle weight/profiles to yours, is going to be just this side of meaningless...

    Trip with firearm

Excellent post, brother- that saved me a bunch of typing this morning. BTW, I don't know how many years you have on the job, or how soon you're planning to retire, but I retired recently, and it is wonderful. Either way, be safe...

Which 600-horsepower station wagon would make the best expedition vehicle?

Didn't Captain Slow use something like that in the Botswana Special?

    Change your security lug nuts.

...and the Subaru above appears to be being pulled by an elastic strap, which is a very gentle way to pull a vehicle out. It's not like he was using a logging chain...

    Change your security lug nuts.

Airbags are not designed to protect against rollovers- they are designed to protect against very specific impacts. I've seen numerous rollovers that did not deploy any airbags...

Which 600-horsepower station wagon would make the best expedition vehicle?

There's only a few on the market. The Mercedes AMG E63S has had a lock on that particular niche spot in the marketplace for some time. But now Audi is FINALLY bringing the RS6 Avant to the U.S.. They're both AWD, and they're both powered by twin-turbo V8 engines. Are there any other contenders?

    Change your security lug nuts.

Airbags do not deploy from pulling- they only deploy from impacts. And even then, the impacts have to meet certain criteria in terms of timing and force, before the airbag computer will fire any airbags.

Thanks. Our MTVR is a 2007, so it is air conditioned, with automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, ABS, traction control, CTIS, air ride seat, yada, yada. 53" tall fully beadlocked Michelin tubeless radials with runflat inserts and dual CTIS to adjust front and rear tire...

Looking for a 3.5-4.5 inch lift kit. Trying to spend between $500-$1000. Anyone have any recommendations?

Why? The JK can fit 37" tires with no lift and flat fenders, and even a Rubicon can break stuff with 37" tires.

2004 2WD Chevy Tahoe, what are my options.

I don't care for the Gov-Lock, and I think we've covered why. Other clutch-type LSD units have similar challenges. Nothing wrong with a worm-drive diff like the Quaife, especially for a road car. But for off-road driving, and especially for the types of off-road driving that we are likely to...

Dreadlocks, that radiator is probably not big enough for whatever you're planning to do- those little radiators are designed to work with electric water pumps and electric fans, to cool down the engines of rear-engined NHRA Super Comp (8.90 index) dragsters with the engine shut off, as the car...

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

I'm not gonna take the time to read this whole thread, but attempting to graduate from Craigslist used tires, wheel spacers, leveling kits, Rancho shocks, and other inexpensive bolt-ons, to completely re-engineering the front end of your vehicle, is probably a bad idea. Your hoopty is 20 years...

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

As a Ford factory-trained technician that has worked on them, I can tell you that the TTB front end is EXCEPTIONALLY fragile. They lose alignment after hitting a pothole or bumping a curb. They have wacky (and unequal camber changes throughout their travel, and the stock steering linkage has...
