Not directly relevant, but. . . When I bought our Fuso with a service body, another member here bought an identical truck. He removed the service body and started to build his own box. I bought a Northstar TS 1000 and within a couple of weeks we were off camping. 11 yrs later we are still...
Did a rotate and balance. Shimmy seems to have gone away but I've only driven about 20 miles. I've had a whine on mine for as long as I've owned it, mostly evident when driving alongside a jersey barrier. How did you figure out it was the transfer case? How much oil does the transfer case take?
look like they're fiberglass or plastic to me. Our Northstar TS100 has cast aluminum corners. They may work to replace yours. However all that cracking suggests there may be issues with the wood where the torsion lifting mechanism attaches to the wooden sides of the roof. I'd look closely at...
What year is your truck? 80mph??? Maybe I can get 70 out of mine approaching redline. Do you have a link to the torque curve? My truck is happier at around 2300 or 2400 rpm's. I have the 4D34 engine.
Printed out the workshop manual so it is easier to read. (not cheap--$120!) But much more useful. It only shows 4 codes for a 99fg. 03,06, 11,12. All are related to the electronic governor assembly in the IP. Repairs suggested are either replacing a sub-control rack position sensor...
I live in Denver. Westbound on I-70 there are two 11000+ ft passes. Grade is slightly steeper eastbound than westbound. Westbound I can climb to the top in our 99FG in 4th gear (we're around 12klbs) Eastbound, the grades are just steeper enough that in 4th gear I start slowing down. I might...
Yes I have duals. I think I’m going to take it to a tire shop and have all the tires balanced and rotated. I don’t have a garage or shop so have to work on the street or in the gravel storage lot if I do it myself.
It’s my understanding that the USA 1999FG has very little computer control of the injection system. I read that it basically controlled the idle system and the engine would run without the computer system operating. I’ve never confirmed this personally but if it’s true a tune won’t accomplish much.
Looked closely at my front tires. There's evidence the right front tire is out of balance (some scalloping). Here's my hypothesis about why I got the death wobble: We were driving north in a very strong west wind (40-60mph) so I had to pull hard left on the steering wheel to keep the truck...
Owned it 11 years so I'm pretty familiar it's feel. Drove from Denver to Valentine NE last weekend. Felt to me like I had about a 10% increase in power. Held it's speed much better on the hills. Didn't have to shift down at all going through the Sand Hills. I might have thought I was just...
We were driving north on I-25 in Wyoming about a month ago and got a death wobble at about 56 mph. Happened about 3 times in a 10 mile stretch. Owned the truck 11 yrs and 50k miles. Never happened before. I thought it might have been induced by pavement conditions. I’ve been paying more...
