I use shop towels in my paper towel holder, a little sturdier than a standard paper towel and does not unravel.

    Alaskan Camper Build Up

Door latches in place, came from Fastenal, this was a tip from Saronconcepts on the Bullet XV build, not the Tardis build. Though the Tardis build has given me several great ideas. Packing up and getting ready for a 2 weeks trip from Colorado to Southern Oregon BTW, I have a set of...

2012 Dodge 5500 - Expedition Camper - The build has started

Also glad to here you are keeping the rig and doing some add ons. I have a pair of the Viair's and find them extremely useful. Make sure you put at least one tank, if not two in so that you can run air tools. I run my jack, tools etc all from them.

Tire rack now has can be held in the open position using a bolt. Please ignore the touch of surface rust, needs to go to the power coaters next month. Receiver hitch has extension now that allows the tire to rest on a little ramp while in the closed position.

    Alaskan Camper Build Up

I know the rear tire carrier is completed now, but just a thought: What if the tire carrier was mounted in such a way that it could swing all the way around and latch along the side of the truck. When you are camping, you can swing it around and latch it to the side of the truck = out of the...

    Alaskan Camper Build Up

After perusing many of the builds I came across this table leg on the Tardis build and knew I needed it. The table in the Alaskan is okay, but by no means perfect. I'll try to post a video of how it works later, but for now here are some pictures of the table slightly modified. One of the...

Looking to build custom dodge 5500

My welder that put my bed together is local in Colorado and a long ways from TN. Let me know if I can give you any insight on what I have learned thus far.

    Alaskan Camper Build Up

Hi Capt Eddie, The tire is simply too large to offset to the side and be able to open the door. Therefore it's centered and away we go.

    Alaskan Camper Build Up

I did lift the tire into place to put it on this time, but it would be a pain in the ice and snow with poor footing or uneven terrain. I'll probably figure out something to aid the lift of this in the future. Here's a shot with the new tire cover in place. Sorry, no totem...

Here is a shot of the Engels that now slide back and forth to access inside or out. The Engels sit on trays with ball rollers that allow them to slide back and forth as needed: Shelves and compartments on either side of the water tank in place: New cell phone amplifier location...

    Alaskan Camper Build Up

I know of a 5500 that has the DEF tank assembly sitting on a shelf (along with the DPF and EGR) running code free :) You would be amazed at how much better the truck runs and the increase in fuel economy(and how much this junk weighs). It will also run nicely on any diesel now........ Of...

    Alaskan Camper Build Up

Hi David and thanks for looking. Looks like at this point I'll be spending next Tuesday at my original bed welder while he takes apart the front swing arm and converts it into a rear swing arm for me. I'll shoot some pics as it comes along. At this point I'm just going to keep it simple, but...

    Alaskan Camper Build Up

This is a response I pulled from page 34, as I rehash a problem I still have. Link one doesn't work now... Okay the front tire is not working and I need to find an alternative. Engine temps are too high and my milage has suffered. As an easy experiment I pulled the spare and bracket...

I'll let you know on the cell phone booster, so far so good after finding the "sweet spot" for the internal antenna. Up at least two bars all around if there is a signal to find.

    Foam mattress

I finally got tired of sore shoulders and neck and had Alaskan fit my camper for a real 10" mattress. Couldn't be happier despite the weight. Probably an issue because I use my camper so much. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Alaskan Camper Build Up

I'm starting to organize the front under bed storage area. Extra fridge and freezer will slide back and forth on a track with rollers for inside or outside access. I ordered another hinge kit from Wagon Gear so that the fridge hinges on the side rather than the end. Fridge with hinge kit...
