Oh that sounds terrible! I don't think I"ve ever come across anything like that before! Calipers are good though. But that's a good thing to consider! I have found that spraying the brackets down with silicone things quiet down (not the clunk, just normal suspension noise). I think heavy...

    Project "Autonomous" F-350

agreed. But everyone starts somewhere though. I kinda get annoyed with these articles but then remember these new fancy vehicles with high tech off road settings can get some people into serious trouble...hopefully this sorta article reaches out to people before they 100% trust some...

Diesel for overlanding- are you happy with the choice?

If only we could have some of the euro or aussie rigs over here...

In other (happy) news. Went for a cruise today. I think this will do just fine :-) Wonky steering has been resolved from tightening the spindle bolts - for the time being anyway. Clunk still there obviously. But everything else on the truck is performing well at this point. Always...

Diesel for overlanding- are you happy with the choice?

The noise 'issue' certainly is one to be considerate about. My dad's truck is so freaking quiet, it's awesome! But...personally, I would not want to deal with potential issues with all those electronics. Also, in some situations, having high torque may not be a good thing if one is not, er…...

Haha, I didn't even think that honestly, but the clunk is not with full articulation. It's more or less on potholed roads, or cobble, or the occasional low speed speed bump crossing. Very odd. But my bump stops need to be extended. As is no I have probably...oh... 6" up travel up front, and...

All edited for space Yes intervention for sure no doubt about that with how those nuts were, my goodness.. Anywhoo. I am thinking the same in terms of springs or something that is ever so slight there is no visible sign, and bolts torqued. Of course if it was something really bad there would...

Well front end was torn down and tightened. It as pretty clear some bolts/nuts were just plain missed. How I have been on the road (and off) for a year without incident is amazing. Someone is looking out for me that's for sure!!! On the drivers side, only 1 of the 5 nuts were even anywhere...

Diesel for overlanding- are you happy with the choice?

Heres some .02 if you haven't made a decision. If I can make 2 complaints about full timing with a diesel, it's noise and weight. Noise because, well, I'm already down by one ear, and have an older 7.3. So cruising around with the window down isn't really a thing. People turn around when I'm...

The nuts that hold the spindle to the steering knuckle. There are 5 (the one the pen is pointing to since its dark outside to take a real pic). 3 of them were almost off the bolts Your totally correct that this is historically one of the better platforms (of an older truck) to utilize. And...

Not a happy camper....:mad::mad: For the good of the public to consider their own options.... So upon returning home and hearing more clunking and steering rattle, again, decided to poke around again. Something has to be showing a sign somewhere...but as usual nothing obvious. Anywhoo...

    Destination Unknown - a 1997 F350 build

Wow that's crazy. I honestly have never experienced anything like that before...or at least noticed it I suppose. A few bolts were somewhat loose, but not enough to cause a clunk, or so I think. But I only have hand tools at the moment. I did notice somethign interesting though. The rear...

Well I can't gauge the bolts because they've already been on the truck a while, and having been in the process of moving my depth gauge and calipers were left for the time being. So I will be ordering a replacement set of bolts from sky here probably tomorrow as a precaution to throw in the...

Hmm...that would be very concerning if they were stretching!? They're from the kit. So over the last year the bolts have been retightened twice. THe first time thye were just loose as normal with a new part. the second time they were quite loose, and I had a shop with high power...

In other news…. Since good ol' dad is visiting during my 'move' and since I had a few more weeks before work starts, we took his truck to explore yesterday. I must say, this little 'vacation' has been nice, and it will be tough being a working man again haha! I must admit it is nice being...

Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions seabass! I would agree. I don't think a frame issue is likely. I don't beat up the truck that hard... But it is something I'm always weary of. The sky suff does seem to be built well, and the welds are super strong, thick steel. But the whole talk...

But, back to reality. I have another bit of clunking going on. Again (n):mad: After last September, going back home, I found out the shackle brackets from SKY off road were not secured to the frame (about 1/4 inch gap between bracket and frame), causing a very ambiguous...
