Finally. . .some action shots. Maiden voyage with the RTT this weekend. 7000' in the cascades. Camp, looking ironic next to a big pusher: 7000' at the summit. The highest vehicle in the state at that moment. There was probably 12' of snow.

This is really cool. Can't wait to see pictures of it on a trail or on top of a mountain. Love the innovation.

DIY Expo Trailer Builders Q&A Thread

Here is how it sits today. The RTT isn't even completely mounted yet and I just built the superstructure last night. I built the trailer itself in the summer and already have over 2500 miles on it over all types of surfaces from freeway to deep snow. I love it so far even though it is a redneck...

Actually, it tracks very nicely in parking lots, driveways and city streets. It is still a ton shorter than say, a boat trailer. It just doesn't have a big overhang. Not my first rodeo here. For freeway cruising at 80+ through Wyoming, you are absolutely correct about it being a weight balance...

You nailed it! The RTT will be centered over the axles and the 100qt cooler goes on the rear. So the heavy stuff is centered and rearward. I was also concerned about tight corners, dips and breakovers but it hasn't been an issue so far. I have some experience with 50/50ish trailers and find that...

Here's my work in progress. .. First naked behind the LJ adventure Jeep: and behind the freeway cruiser WK2: The next phase is to mount the RTT to it and then start with the "systems". Water, PPX, Battery, etc. It also serves as basecamp/firewood hauler for snow runs. As it turns out, I...

    Gear and Locker Question

If you are running an automatic, disregard all advice on gearing. Your year has a .69:1 overdrive. With 35s, you want either 4.88 or 5.13. 4.56 or 4.88 will be fine with the 6 speed. No one has ever complained about too low of gearing in a late TJ.

    Tow Vehicle Dilemma for Popup

LS motor or go a different direction for camping. Hemi swaps are a waste of money compared to an LS and forced induction adds a lot of complexity.

Colombia: Just for the FARC of it!

I spent a fair amount of time in Barrancabermeja in the last couple of years. It isn't the "eternal springtime" of Bogota. The exact opposite but the people and the culture are just fantastic. Can't wait for pics. Especially interested if you get down in the Magdalena valley. Such a...

Right now I just have a harbor freight 12v high volume compressor. It actually works really well. However, I was used to AC compressor OBA in my last Jeep so I am getting that together.

Camp lighting? 12v or mains via inverter?

I use one of the amazon/chinese LED light bars as a camp light. 6 LEDs and 18W works great. In fact, it is almost too bright.

Here is mine. Packed for 5 days. There are storage racks under the rack that the cooler is on for chairs and the tent. Duffle and sleeping bags go inside. I am changing it up a little this year....
