Great post!
Thanks very much for this level of detail.
I really like your thoughts on local cafe's and eating spots. I know for me traveling in Latin America with it's low food cost I much prefer to each at small places like locals and enjoy regional beverages and food styles. Especially when...
Great video and worth watching for anyone either newbie or vet.
Also the selection of rigs shown is super cool since a number of them weren't aval in the USA but are not importable.
The scenery around Australia made the video worth watching if nothing else :)
10 old rigs running around with a mess of happy owners & families.
That is going to make for some killer campfire stories :)
Thanks for making this happen Mikey.
Hey Kurt,
I wonder if you would be willing to talk some about living out of the rigs and the sleep setups.
I know you guys split up time between hotels, guest places and camping but you still spent alot of time in the rigs. And when you did camp there was the cooking, packing, cleaning and...
Mikey not sure what your thrift store selection is like in Kingman but here in Phoenix I can hit the local Goodwill and come up with anything from small soft makeup backs to larger duffle bags from tradeshows.
A never ending selection of bags for couple of dollars. I really like the canvas bible...
Well I know you really like the manual trans in your rigs.....BUT
with a little one on the way the ease of an Auto will be a welcome thing as you juggle the bottle, pacifier, hand over a toy and such :)
But then again if you are busy "shifting" then you have an excuse to make the wifey do all that!
very cool pics of the inside of the mines...
I have traveled around the desert southwest for years but rarely venture underground. I doubt I will start now but at least I can enjoy your pics :)
thanks for posting
it has gotten to where I look for your trip reports just to sit in awe of the photography
I have visited some of those areas and there is no point in looking at my pics when I can enjoy yours so much more :)
thanks for getting out in the rough weather to capture this stuff and please know we...
very cool to see something that wasn't really that long ago yet feels like forever at the same time.
looks like a great trip and you really covered some cool areas with a ton of stuff to see.
what else ya got locked up in the vault? :)
John, great to have your here on Expo and I hope to get back down there for the next Mex 1000
That was a crazy time trying to work out the pit in that area and all the rigs flying by.
Big Burbs are a ton of fun and I hope your chase one keeps on going forever.
Keep me posted if you need...
But it doesn't make any sense for them to shoot videos on the Defender as they don't sell those on the lot.
Unless they take the LR4 out WITH the Defender and show how great the new rig is compared to the old stuff, then we would watch the video.
They are in the biz of selling NEW vehicles, and...
thanks for the update...March was the last time I was down there and was with a group so didn't pay too much attention to the prices. But good to know.
I would like to go back around Christmas break so we will see what things are like... but I will be in an old 4x4 Suburban so I can either get...
Jeff,
sounds like you would fly from nashville to monterey to pick up the van?
I would agree that with a small air compressor (and actually airing down) you can make it to a ton of really cool places. It might be worth buying a set of Maxtrax and gifting them to your friend as a thanks for the...
Hey Mikey you can just called me Jenny "Overlander" Craig :)
I have owned rigs that top 11,000 lbs and were 10ft tall so I know about the big boy world!
But I have also seen the suspension & drivetrain damage, increased tire wear, harsh ride and more that come from overweight rigs. I figure it...
Great pics but way too cold for me to go out and play in
I am a desert rat through and through
Looking forward to pics after you get your new toy in the fluffy stuff
Wow looking at your map you covered some ground. I am not much of a hunter so was the distance you drove more to look for elk in different areas?
Great idea on the river rafting dry box. Something to look into.
I like your setup and looks like it did the job for you. Keep us posted on your...
Holy Crap that is a nice Bronco...
I had a chance to hang out with Todd and enjoy the Mexican 1000 chasing for a 69 race Bronco and my respect for those rigs just keeps growing.
Of course the Ford crew is getting a bit large...looks like I am going to have to get some more Chevy's to join the...
Ok folks we have a policy around here of not pooping in someones trip report...
Even if it is a car dealership that doesn't take the rig off asphalt.
Or if the driver rubbernecks an accident scene.
Or if there is no indication that the vehicle did anything that a Prius couldn't do.
We just...
