The person them self = 150lbs
Extra food/water to cover 3 days = 40lbs
Sleeping back/pad/clothes/chair = 20lbs
Pop up awning, fire pit, propane tank, and other goodies you bring when your wife is along = 50lbs
So you are right it is 260lbs but I could swear I remember the 6800 & 7100...
Looks like a really good run and very cool that none of you had met before. Just goes to show what kind of folks are around here.
Great pics and fun to hear from 2 people on the trip.
Thanks for posting and I am looking forward to more from that area.
Lars & Todd...
great combo of pics & storytelling from each of you make this a great read.
Lars please, please post up any past trips you have done. The style you use to add a bit of narrative to each pics really takes me along for the adventure.
Now as to this trip...yeah looks a bit cold for...
Do you have to stake it out or can it free stand?
Looks like a great deal on a nice light package, my wife has been wanting a 1 person tent for when she goes with the Boy Scouts.
Hey Mikey,
It might be a good idea to update the first post with a list of who is coming and their rig...
that will help keep a head count and give you an idea if it needs to get capped.
As an aside we should also mention comms:
I have both CB radio and 2m ham, no FRS family walkie-talkie...
just a thought here...
but would it be better to mount the nato fuel cans with the handles to the outside of the vehicle vs together on the inside. That way they would be easier to get on/off the roof?
More important question..
Can I bring my 70 Burb over to your shop for a quote on an aluminum...
Kurt thanks for the breakdown as it has been hard to follow/keep up with the time spread.
And double thanks for writing up your thoughts as it is good to hear from the non-professionals and "outsiders" if you will.
Thanks for that video link...I started watching it and then wanted to pop back...
Funny I have that same Scepter tan can and keep thinking of a more complicated solution....duh..keep it simple sounds like the best plan.
I would like to add an RV sink type pump faucet to the Scepter so I can leave it in place and get the water out easily.
Keep posting to this thread for the...
Well I guess we will all have to start pm'ing you killer craigslist deals we find.
If you come to Arizona you are welcome to stay at my house as I am very close to the Phoenix Airport.
I am sure any of the Socal Expo folks would host you as well.
It would be very cool to see more of this stuff...
Make sure you check the Four Corners section for the Old Iron run in Feb...it would be great to have your rig out there for some camping and exploring with the rest of us folks.
It will be mild wheeling and more about the fun of hanging out and making friends than busting up our vintage rigs.
I think you will find that we are a flexible bunch of folks...hey we run old iron so we have to all get along just to band together against all the new fangle folks :)
Anything pre-80's from a dune buggy to a Mog seems fine to me and I am sure Mikey feels the same. Total rig count might be more...
Wow...
that is too pretty for me to own as there is no way I could keep from wanted to travel the backcountry. Sure I could avoid rock crawling as I don't do that now. But I would be racking up the miles in no time.
Very nice truck and glad it didn't get cut up into an ICON
I am kinda lost....
So there was Scott, Kurt and ???? , looks like Greg and family...
Is this the same crew that did North America or are you changing up folks along the way?
Either way it would be great to hear any thoughts or feedback from whoever has traveled thus far. I know, I know much is...
as I mentioned www.67-72chevytrucks.com is the best resource you will find for that Blazer
And if you look in the Four Corners section you will see that we are doing an Old Iron Run in Feb a bit south of you so bring that rig out....just how it is would be fine!
I have said it before and I will say it again....this is one of the best threads on Expo.
Real time, real life feedback from people who are actually doing what we all wish we could....beats a driveway build anyday.
Thanks to all of you who have given us your thoughts and please update this...
I agree, who cares about the vehicle when you are building memories like these.
She will have lots of great stories to share with friends and history lessons will mean so much more since she will have a feel for the places she reads about.
Good on you for getting out there before she is all...
Hey Chili,
Yep they were sold as "Suburbans" starting in the late 50's I think.
There some of these around and can be had in the rust few southwest USA for $3000-$5000 USD....if you are willing to buy someone else's project then you can drop that price to $2000 range or less.
They can be had...
Very nice writeup and looks like a good time with good friends.
I have always enjoyed the Swansea site and recommend it to tons of people as an easy place to play, see cool stuff & camp.
