Please pass on to the owner of this incredible rig that we are having an Old Iron run in Feb and it would be super cool to have it there..and I know you have a beefy bit of old iron yourself so join in the family fun...
Not sure where you live but in light conditions like snow, forest roads and such a posi-traction setup is nice as it will be there to help in an instant.
However I really like the idea of a select-able locker and adding a really good air setup like the Extreme Outback stuff to provide the air...
Hey Matt it was great seeing you out & about this weekend. We were on our way back from a Boy Scout campout and one of the young guys riding with me spotted you down the road. But alas I was not fast enough to grad a camera.
Looking forward to what you guys do with the loaner, and congrats on...
Sorry for the quietness as I was doing some deep thinking on where to go with DE..
and after it is all said and done I have to say I am shutting it down.
I am just not the right fit with all my family and personal time constraints and the cost are too much for someone like me who hates to...
Oh yeah I will be there....kidney stones kept me away last time but nothing like that ever again I hope :)
My 1970 Burb will be there and I plan on rattling the cages of Nick-Nobin with his burb and another Nick around here with his old truck. With this kind of decent lead time I hope we can...
Please Please make sure you check this out...
Often times when you bring a vehicle into a country it is referenced on your passport and then you can NOT fly out and leave the vehicle without some sort of proof you didn't sell it.
I am not sure what the deal is in Mexico but it would suck to get...
As a father I can say that trips like yours are some of my best memories...
thanks for sharing and good on you for getting the boy out there, and it looks like he is either old enough to drive or almost there. Do you let him behind the wheel?
I have had my buys driving for years before they...
So is this your personal rig Matt or a loaner rig as that makes a big difference as to the advice given?
You have a fridge in there which is mod #1 in my book...not wanting to drill the floor implies loaner rig (just a guess till you tell us) so maybe make a platform that uses any factory floor...
Great writeup and pics....and thanks for the alert on the full size vehicle issues as that helps those of us who run big long toys
Lots of water and green stuff which is always fun to see in Az.
I bought a 70 Suburban and went right from the buyer to run 130+ miles of dirt to get home....I did have a great buddy with me in his rig in case of trouble.
It is all about the adventure :)

I am loving my 70 Burb...lots of parts, decent mileage and tons of space for a family of 3 (including a teenage boy).
The old Jeeps are cool also but you can't been Chevy/GMC burbs for...
Having owned a RHD Troopie I will say that it is a ton of fun and it would not stop me from buying a rig at all.
This is a great body/engine combo and one that will run forever.
Incredible pics...just amazing
thanks for bringing us along for the ride and I am looking forward to the rest of your trip
Man I really need to get to Death Valley!
this is shaping up to be an epic adventure
I hope you can spare the time during your travels to keep us updated and I commend you on setting your priorities right
I will 2nd the idea of spending time at Horizons Unlimited.
Since it is a 2 person trip I would really recommend a Toyota 4wd van...the Hi-Ace gives you plenty of living space and they are easy to build up mildly for off road use. Quality tires and a 2 inch lift will do 99% of what you need if...
Very cool history lesson and great pics.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane as it reminds us that Expo is that the first of the "go out and play" concepts....just the most fun one :)
great little trip report and happy to see the old iron working well for you.
I love my old rig and at least we go out knowing we can more than likely fix anything on it...no crazy sensor or computer to fry and leave us stranded.
Looking forward to more reports now that the temps are coming down.
Your last shot of Crystal Mill is amazing and the Devils Punchbowl really grabbed me also.
Thanks for taking the time to post this pics and I like the explanation of how much driving & work it took to get them....which is why I am not much of a photographer :)
Very impressive on the working & saving for your trip.
Now I am really looking forward to the psot from the road as an inspiration to the rest of us.
Thanks for updating us!
