New Build Begins- 2021 CV 515

I'm unsure if you need/want an 'extra' step for getting into your cab, but since you share a running board style with my Kodiak, I thought I would share my simple step. My running boards are 28 inches above the ground so doable for me, but a lower step would be nice. Stock I moved them...

1987 Unimog U1300L Composite Camper - Portland, OR - BaT Auction

AWESOME rig. WabiSabi's quality and attention to detail are the zenith of any work I have ever seen, not only in regards to expo vehicles but aerospace. Heck, I bought their old cabin and they sent me CAD 3D drawings of how we would attach it temporarily to 4x4 wood cross supports for the trip...

6 lug wheels, so 3 of the holes were large enough to fit over the lugnuts, and 3 were stamped with a concave surface to duplicate the mounting surface. That way you could remove the 3 lugnuts not at the oversized holes and remove the step so it was out of the way, before removing the final 3...

    DIY Super Singles

The old 404 Unimogs had rim steps. While it would not be a direct bolt-on as those are 6 lug rims, there has to be a million of those that were removed and sitting around as 'junk' so a cheap easy starting point.

If you can have the lower step stick out some it will make a HUGE difference in the ease of climbing. As you can see below my Fuso was a 'vertical' climb, while the MB1017 has the lower step out a little (not past the tire) which is great. For reference here are the step/floor/seat heights...

    WTB: Stazworks or Hutchinson Wheels

While the videos below are not a true apples-to-apples comparison as the single-piece wheel is a 22.5" rim with a commercial tire, while the two-piece wheel is a 20" rim and 'military' tire, @RAM5500 CAMPERTHING was a great example of a single piece 20 rim with a 'military' tire. Single piece...

    Mercedes Overland Building/Tuning

I like the Ironmans as they are surprisingly quiet given their tread pattern, and they are certainly a great price new. I have Toyo M320s as spares (the HUGE benefit of 22.5" rims, I went to my locate tire shop and asked for some used 385/65/22.5 for spares, and boom, 10 minutes later 85%ters...

I run 385/65/22.5 (Hercules Ironman I-402) on 12.25 Alcoa (Aluminum) and they are a perfect match. I can't speak to backspace as they are stock Alcoa rims so my track is off by 3" front to rear.

A- I was able to get the firebox off mine with just lots (and lots and lots) of cribbing and a combination of highlift jacks and bottle jacks. I sold it on my local Craigslist for $1800, so it might be worth the effort to pull it off as a unit. B- You might check out the Lowly the Lorry thread...

Canadian Hino Ranger FT 4x4 Crewcab

A few suggestions (as always YMMV) As you have your wheels cut, build them up, install and drive with them installed in a bunch of situations and make sure everything is hunky-dory (translated to queen's English - working properly;) ) You don't want to in the future after you have changed the...

Canadian Hino Ranger FT 4x4 Crewcab

I installed the 335/80R20 tires and painted your new rims red to match. ;) It would seem that if you extended your wheelbase to match the existing wheel opening in your box, you would have a great compromise between a short maneuverable wheelbase (my Fuso had a 133" WB and it was outstanding++)...

Canadian Hino Ranger FT 4x4 Crewcab

Perhaps this will give you some ideas as far as wheelbase, overhang, etc as it is the same camper (11' at the bottom, 12' overall length) on two different trucks, which have a hung difference in wheelbase. Both the Kodiak and the 1017 have a high steering turning angle (53°), but the Kodiak's...

    WTS ZARGES 40568 ALUMINUM CASES

I agree the Zarges stuff is very nice but very pricy. That is why I was glad to be able to get these at a great deal, or I don't think I would have been so quick to modify the one. As I am making my own rack, I will have a channel at the front to accept the lip that is at the bottom of the...
