Cool! My plan is to build a table that will hang off the rear of the tub using 1" square tubing. I hope to store the table in the same manner as you do, on the inside of the lid.
The only thing I could think of is maybe the torsional load as the trailer tries to twist. Maybe. I'm not an engineer.
I went out and looked at my PJ trailer. Itis welded like they say not to and I have severely overloaded it with dirt and gravel multiple times without any issues.
So after the grinder to the finger and a month of sickness I've picked this project back up again.
Got the hinges and handle welded on...
I also got the gas struts placed and drilled. I'm off a little on my lid so I had to build a shim so the there was no contact between the lid and the...
Looks great!
Did you build the fenders or modify the originals? How do you like the Monstaliner? I'm getting close to paint and am contemplating doing the whole thing (frame, tub, lid) in some sort of bedliner.
I'd prefer some sustainable forestry practices to an aluminum mine. That said, I'll take an aluminum based tent over wood.
There's an old saying that goes, "If it can't be grown, it must be mined."
:)
Barely nicked me but I could feel something under the skin at the knuckle. Not wanting to chance my dexterity I went to the doctor. After seeing how the doc hacked on my finger I left wishing I had never gone in. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I just hope there is no infection as the doc...
More progress this weekend. I forgot to snap photos of the crossmember that was welded to the frame to support/mount the Bal-C jacks. I also decided to mount the RTT flush to the lid so I welded two more 1"x2" crossmembers to the frame of the lid. I then skinned the lid.
I went too fast and...
Today I got the crossmembers added to the lid and all the remainding grinding done.
Tomorrow I hope to pull the tub off again and work on the new tongue.
Well, I've decided to go with siko and grnhornets advice and postpone the tailgate for a little while.
More progress today. I started out by making the top rails for the tub frame. In an effort to minimize any rust I shot the tub and the rails with a little primer before welding them together...
Okay, no thoughts on whether to cut the gate or not. Anyone, Bueller...
I picked up the 1 1/4" angle iron to cap the tub rails and also the metal to build the frame of the lid. Additionally, the lid hinges came in. I hope to find time this weekend to start on the rails and lid.
You're telling me!
I wasn't able to get as much done today as I had hoped. Honey due list is taking over. However I did manage to get the rails straightened out a little more. I think this is as good as I can get them.
I also spent more time pounding out all the dents in the tub. I got the...
Thanks!
BTW, I've read through your build thread and appreciate the tire and shackle information. I'm really hoping I can stuff the 265/75-16 tires and Daystar .5" lift shackles under this without going spring over.
