I spent this past weekend deer hunting at a buddy's house and decided to sleep in my van for various reasons:
- guys in our group all snore
- they have a newborn that wakes every few hours to feed
- they have dogs that are not the most well behaved
- I didn't want to to deal with the 3 reasons...
I've been researching rear Chevy van bumpers with tire carriers and aside from Aluminess, there isn't much. I did stumble onto a company called TireGate that makes a receiver mounted carrier for a tire, fuel cans, etc.

Has any one heard of them and/or know...
I just got more information from SMB:
I sent some pictures to them and they stated that due to the double doors I have on both sides of the van body, they cannot mount a top on my vehicle. The claim something they add to the structure will interfere with the driver side doors. The research...
Long Term Review - 9/3/2014
It is hard to believe that I'm approaching 4 years of White Buffalo ownership. In that time, it's been to many locales just not as many as I would have liked. If you read my post above, you'll see the past 1.5-2 years have been busy for me. In that time, the van...
Update 9/3/14
My apologies for dropping off the radar for a while. In the last 1.5 yrs. I was laid off, finished grad school, got a new job, got married, got a better job, moved halfway across the country, had a kid, and currently in the process of buying a home. I've been around but not...
I finally received a response from SMB North (Indiana). They cited their installed cost was around $6000 and there are now limitations on what vans they can install on based on other features installed. I guess some vans have side curtain airbags somewhere that prevents SMB from mounting a...
Somewhere on this forum or the SMB Forum, someone bought a used van and went to Sportsmobile to have them add a Penthouse Top. This was a few years ago.
I'm curious if anyone has explored this option recently and knows what kind of price they charge? I emailed Sportsmobile but they haven't...
Does anyone have a good source for Express van service/repair manuals? I have a 2005 and picked up a Chilton repair manual but at best it is only a reference. It does not cover the more recent vans very well and none of the AWD drivetrain.
I find these factory service manuals but they...
I've tried looking through some posts but what I find is mostly examples of Ford vans.
At some point, I would love to have more utilitarian bumpers on my Express van but other than Aluminess and one other that I forget (more for work vans), there is nothing out there that I have found. I think...
Thank you for all of the input. I've been reading more about 11.6" screens and even did a little experiment at home. I averaged the dimensions of some fairly standard 11.6" and 10.1" netbooks and cut out their respective footprints in cardboard. It gives me a better visual. As long as the...
Would you be able to offer some clarity/examples on the resolution issue mentioned? Is it mostly having to scroll left/right as well as up/down?
My intentions are that this netbook will get very little use. I would also hand it to an overnight guest so they can check email. When I'm home...
At this point netbook computers are sitting firmly in the rearview mirror of ultrabooks and tablets. I found a few threads on the subject but many were very old. I expect this discussion to explore everyone's experience and the potential for used equipment.
My current notebook computer is a...
It's been a while since I've posted but just stumbled across something that I haven't seen mentioned...

I was surprised to not find anything during a search. What useful offline apps (do not require cellular or data connections) are people using? I know most games don't require a connection but I'm talking about more useful applications that a traveler might use.
I'm revamping some portable...
I will need finances to cooperate but I'm contemplating a build for a versatile bike that would see some bikepacking use. I already have a Salsa Enabler fork (135mm) and I'm eyeing a 2013 Soma Juice frame running 29x2.4 wheels.
There seems to be a raging debate over the ideal drivetrain...
My fiance is heading out on a trip with her sisters for 4 days/3 nights in the Grand Canyon at the end of August. They will be with a pair of guides and be sleeping in tents. We have most of her backpacking gear sorted out except her sleeping gear. What would you recommend for a backpacking...
What kind of MPG do you get rolling down the highway in a best case scenario (assuming that you are rolling mostly empty, about 60MPH, flat terrain and no head wind)? Just curious what you ambo conversion guys are getting.
Not yet. A friend of a friend is a mechanic and offered to look at it. He has some sort of audio system that you attach microphones under the vehicle and someone inside has a set of headphones with a control box. You flip to different microphones to pinpoint the source. The bad thing is he...
