As we neared Fort Puite we stopped to checkout a homestead site along Piute Creek. This is another instance where the info in the Mojave Guidebook really brings a place to life as you read about the people who lived here and their tribulations.
Homestead Hot tub maybe :)
We parked and...
Since there was still plenty of daylight left Martín got to cruise'n on his mountain bike while I took pics and enjoyed a fine cigar from on top of the rocks. These are the moments that make memories to be shared years down the line.
Martín took this pic, he said the rocks were angry at him...
Next we went North along the Colorado River to make a stop in Parker and check out the old dam, it has a great cool style that you don't see anymore. Back with this could be functional and look nice also.
And of course we had to stop in Lake Havasu and check out the London Bridge. My son...
Well we survived our Mojave Road adventure with only some minor scrapes & scratches and it was a ton of fun.
My 13yr old son gets a week of Fall Break and while he is working hard on his Eagle Scout Project we wanted a short but history/scenic/camping filled adventure if possible. Boy did we...
SOAZ Tim here on expo has a swing out without a tire on it on his 4runner, great setup with table, jerry cans and more.
Check out his build thread or google his blog
Very cool pics and nice little write up
good job taking the young one with you as she will remember the trip for a long time
I am looking forward to more pics so please keep posting
pretty rough story when you read it all the way through...
true? well yeah lots of adventure machines never go on adventures, just like lots of hot rods never go fast, lots of divers watches never dive and lots of wicked rifles never hunt....but we all still enjoy our passions and that is fine...
Wow I really am going to need to keep an eye on you Southern Az folks and make it a point to get down there....I keep saying that and you guys keep doing more & more cool stuff.
Great pics & sounds like a killer outing
I gotta say having run the White Rim Larry your rig is amazing. Classic looks, killer drivetrain, and that Phoenix Camper is sooo nice.
Great pics by the way
Mark I would like to come up and borrow your setup and do a little radio testing after I get my overhead console built and the radio installed.
Right now I am using the HT and the roof antenna and it seems ok.
Thanks for the offer for others to make use of the equipment that really helps.
first search around here for a thread I started on parts for the 75 series
Then go to toyodiy.com and enter your vin so you can look up the factory part numbers
then contact your local toyota dealer and be amazed how much they can get for you
after that I am sure you will find parts suppliers...
very cool, thanks for the alert on that...
My National Luna has extra hinge/latch points around it and I think I could make one work without drilling new holes
Oh no it has a Trasharoo but just didn't put it on for the post build pics...
But it went on as soon as I got home :)
And it went on way more easily than before since I could swing the tire out for install.
That is such a great motor, I love my 1HZ and can really lust after the 1HDT
and with an auto trans it would be a killer combo.
Funny how these setups are for sale from the factory but here in the US we have to piece it together.
Great project and looking forward to updates
UK thanks for the body filler idea....Colorado Bill also told me not to knock off too much weld bead.
I am more about function than looks so once I shoot some black paint all will be well.
The Extreme Outback Compressor & tank are mounted just under the floor back by the rear doors. Travis of Safari Pacific did a great job making a custom mount. No issues having it there even with lots of hard trails & washboards over the last few months.
I bought an angle grinder & my 13yr old...
