It looks like those are turning out really nice. After you test them out this summer, I'll probably be interested in a set if you plan to have them avalible. Michael

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

I don't have any experience with your truck type specifically, but on out U1300L (and our LMTV), we really needed the suspension seats to soften the ride. You might not need the suspension, but like you, we needed new seats anyway, so it made sense to just go ahead and get the suspension now...

    Spring Mounts for Rail-on-Rail Subframe

I use stacked belleville washers all the time at work. I usually use them when I need a very high spring rate in a small volume. They work very well, but they do yield if they are not "preset" by the manufacturer. If you get them in the non preset state, they will take a permanent set if you...

    Spring Mounts for Rail-on-Rail Subframe

I use McMaster Carr all the time for many things. For springs, I have also used Lee Spring and Century Spring with good results. Michael

That sounds good. I think 6061 is a good choice especially for a prototype. I look forward to seeing your results. Michael

That's very interesting. I was thinking about trying something similar. I'm really interested in how that works out for you. How are you going to manufacture the final version? Will it be CNC milled aluminum? I was thinking of making a welded tank from water jet cut 3mm thick stainless...

    Pulled the trigger

For our sub-frame, we just modified the stock MB sub-frame that was on our U1300L military troop bed. We cut is down a little to make it about 10 inches narrower, we trimmed off about 8 inches from the front, we removed as much unneeded weight as we could, we added a new perimeter frame (the...

    Pulled the trigger

Nice layout Nathan, We are going with a composting toilet as well. We are trying to keep things simple, so we are planning to try out an marine alcohol stove, but we will see how we like it. We can always switch to a 3 burner propane later if we don't like the alcohol stove. We opted to...

Removing the upper spring pack in an 1120

I agree with the no grease comment. That being said, I have used graphite paint in spring packs in the past with very good results. Painting a strip of graphite paint down the middle of the spring worked well...

Adjusting the idle on a OM366LA

On our U1300L (OM366), you can adjust the idle with the engine kill knob. You can twist to adjust idle, and press down hard to shut off the engine. I’m not familiar with your truck, but it might be something similar.

It looks great. I was checking out your roof box on Instagram. Very cool. I really like the way the ARB awning worked out. The height looks perfect. The awning looks good level like that. Michael

Pulling over onto the shoulder - one thing we hate doing.

I'm sure glad that they are ok. That's a good warning to us all. It's a mistake I can imagine making myself, too. I will certainly be more mindful of pulling over onto the shoulder of the road now. Michael

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

Hi Iain, I've followed your posts for years. Thanks for contributing so much to the forum (here and benzworld). Your truck is awesome and one of the reasons we decided to use a SBU for our current expedition truck build. My wife and I have traveled a little in Australia before, but we...

Mercedes Sprinter 4x4 CrewCab Expedition Build in Canada

Thanks for the info Andreas. I think we will set up an awning just like that. I was planning to bond a wide strip of aluminum to the side of our habitat and drill and tap mounting holes in it for the awning. How high up did you mount it? When I was looking at awnings before, I was worried...

Mercedes Sprinter 4x4 CrewCab Expedition Build in Canada

It's great to see you out using your truck so much. I have a questions about the "marker lights" that you have along the top of your habitat box (on the back). Are they reflectors or lights? If they are lights, did you run the wiring inside the fiberglass corner extrusion? We are currently...
