I couldn’t understand why you had such an axe to grind with safejack. Now I get it, you’re competitors.
FWIW. Here is some updated market intel for you. A link to safejack‘s 20ton model.

Listen, I’m all for wilderness. Real, proper, wild and wooly....wilderness.
But what many people don’t realize is that the concept of wilderness - a roadless, structureless and wild place- has been hijacked and bastardized to fit other people’s agenda.
There are wilderness areas that...
LOL. Saving $600 on a moldy appliance and junkyard windows and voila! - your vehicle is no longer overpriced!
As mentioned previously, comparing some frankenstein of a DIY expo rig with one of the premier manufacturers and claiming they are the ones overpriced is silly.
^^^ We did the same thing. But for different reasons. We fish via drift boat/raft a lot. Most of the places we fish have local shuttle services that will move your vehicle from the put-in to the take-out which is really convenient.
It was a little unnerving letting them do that with the SMB...
If the quality of the box that ATW shipped over to Sportsmobile is any indication, the potential for offshore build and ship is high. That box was exceptional in quality and fit and finish. Up until the point it landed in SMB hands and then it all went south from there.
But that box was...
And if we are staying on the topic of "overpriced" I've seen some small rigs that are an order of magnitude WAAAAY more expensive, pound for pound, than ER, EC, Unicat and GXV rolled together!
In that case, you wouldn’t need to be bothered with depreciation because although its considered an operating expense, its a non-cash expense so for trip planning, you wouldn't need to include it in your budget normally.
Don't confuse depreciation with book value/market value inconsistencies. Your depreciation would certainly be one of the largest expense line items since you would depreciate it with a normal curve that drops off heavily the first couple of years.
However, in many cases, mostly due to the...
Not to belabor the point.....but the process of researching, designing and travelling would also be included under the "time spent on vehicle" if we were going to try and do a faithful comparison between the costs of a DIY expo truck build vs. one of the manufacturers listed previously (such as...
Jetstreamin, I have been following your build and it looks outstanding. Well done so far.
I know you said above that you don't keep track of dollar value of your time, but are you by chance keeping track of the hours? You have any idea how much time you've put into your rig? Its what...
Agree and for people on a financial budget - but not a personal time budget - your path is undoubtedly the right one. But that essentially confirms the point that I (and I think others) were trying to make which is you pay the piper one way or another. Even applying a modest cost component to...
^^ I had seen pictures of your rig previously, and as always it looks delightful and inviting.
I don't see the windows and door listed there (which might bring the total up around the $10k mark you quoted per my earlier calc).
Did you happen to keep track of the time/hours put in? Because I...
