Why does the battery have to live in the cab? The bed is a viable option for most. If not there is usually a creative chassis mounted solution for most vehicles if not the under the hood option.
The Engle 45 is the old ARB fridge. On paper it can cool 122F. When I say it tops out at 100F drop from ambient, that isn't an exact number. It's inside a truck, with a little sun load. Maybe 110, 115 drop? You are splitting hairs at this point. The true freeze runs 0°F (-20C). 140F in...
OEM says to disconnect the battery before charging. There are so many different chargers out there they cannot control what you will try to use. There are some crap versions that are rather high voltage. If you dig up grampa's old battery charger, it may charge quick and fast with no...
While driving, not a problem
100W solar while parked will be fine.
Overnight on the battery, this can be fuzzy. If you want to keep stuff frozen when it is too hot to sleep, it's not going to cut it. If you just want refrigerated were it is comfortable or cooler to sleep, might be OK. I don't...
Sorry for the delay. I'm not here all the time.
No
The ARB fridge maxes out at 100°F drop. At 140° the fridge will run 100% and will warm up to about 40°
If you want a true freezer, you need more battery and find a way to keep the fridge cool.
My experience is only running fridge overnight...
OK, I am about a week late to this party...
I have been doing exactly what the OP discussed. My '10 Xterra has had solar since the end of '11. Only battery is the starting battery. No good way to package a separate house battery unless I want to undersize my starting battery. I have an ARB...
How much power are you running? My simple 70W panel (would do 100W without hesitation) is wired with a Weatherpack connector. I can just unplug it if needed. Really simple disconnect.
I think I understand the issue. It isn't the positive side is a Y-connection. It is the ground side. Sounds like you just ground to the body anywhere it works. Power flows in a loop, battery post to battery post. Ground is just a reference point. Pull a strong load and there can be voltage...
To get hot air out of the condenser you need to allow not so hot air into the condenser. Airflow may be a one way street, but if either end is a dead end you won't get any flow.
As stated, severe traction and drivetrain loads from the shear mass that it can be can make for huge stresses between front and rear axles. Even with a low power engine. The 205 would look like a toy under a topkick. People do still break 205s, not often but it can be done, and in trucks...
And I'll make it a 4th request. How charged are the batteries? If they are charged or nearly charged the amperage going into them will be very low. When they are full they are full, you can't keep shoving more energy into them.
Why are they taking 3A now? it could be your battery is...
SK6 is just a charge controller. No battery storage. I was stating that since people were talking about a charge controller won't work unless it can see a battery. The SK6 will work and provide output without a battery. Nice, simple, no BS 6A charge controller. Doesn't try and do...
5165s (bought at summit racing) have been nice. Did them the same time as the 6112s up front. 100k+ on the old stuff and it was till OK.
What really sold me was the 6112 could be set to stock ride height. In 10 years I think my adventures have caused the frame to contact the ground a grand...
They are good for farm tractors. They run a steady speed, usually near full RPM. They can be sized to match that airflow so there is both enough air for the engine and enough speed for the centrifical to function. Try and size one for a regular truck and you can get it large enough to be a...
Sunkeeper SK6 or SK12 will give a usable regulated 12V output even without a battery attached. I have run my solar to my SK6 to my ARB fridge with no battery while playing around and everything was happy.
Wow, lots of discussion. An ignition powered relay, 12 gauge wire, 20A self resetting circuit breaker. It's really simple, it really works, it's safe and effective.
The wire has a voltage drop on a large load, correct and good. This will self regulate the charge rate. Extreme cases the...
